Capacity Building on RPFP and Adolescent Health and Development Strengthens Indigenous Peoples’ Participation in Kabankalan City
May 22, 2026, a Capacity Building Activity on the Integration of Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) and Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) was successfully conducted at Balicaocaoo Highland Resort. The activity was spearheaded by the Commission on Population and Development – Kabankalan City Unit in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and other partner stakeholders.
The training was attended by Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMRs) of Kabankalan City, aimed at strengthening their capacity in integrating population and development programs within their communities. The activity emphasized culturally responsive and inclusive approaches in delivering essential health and development interventions, particularly for Indigenous Peoples.
A key highlight of the session was the discussion led by Mam Cyril D. Ramos, RSW, MSSW, CSWDO Head/Designate Population Officer, who personally provided an in-depth orientation on the mandate and programs of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD). Her discussion focused on the importance of Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning (RPFP) and Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) in promoting informed decision-making, responsible family life, and youth development at the community level.
The activity also gained strong support from facilitators and local leaders. Special appreciation is extended to Hon. Jennelyn Largado, IPMR, for her invaluable support and for allowing the team to conduct the said capacity-building activity within the Indigenous Peoples’ community. Her leadership and cooperation played a vital role in the successful implementation of the program.
Through interactive discussions and participatory learning sessions, the IPMRs were encouraged to strengthen their role as community advocates in promoting health awareness, responsible parenthood, and adolescent well-being within their respective ancestral domains and barangays.
The successful conduct of the activity reflects the continued commitment of the Commission on Population and Development and its partners in Kabankalan City to empower Indigenous Peoples’ leaders and strengthen the integration of population and development programs at the grassroots level, ensuring inclusive and sustainable community development.
