The Municipality of Kabasalan has successfully completed its participation in the national research project by the Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), titled "Health and nutrition interventions for preschool children: Assessment of program delivery in selected public day care centers in the Philippines." Data collection activities were conducted from October 20-22, 2025.
The Municipality of Kabasalan was chosen as one of the areas for this study, which aimed to identify implementation gaps in the delivery of health and nutrition interventions for young learners. The Saphire Child Development Center of Barangay Sininan and the Marble Child Development Center of Barangay Palinta, both Child Development Centers of this Municipality, participated in the said studies.
The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) team led by ๐๐ฌ. ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ง๐ ๐. ๐๐ข๐๐ฃ๐๐ซ - ๐๐๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ก ๐๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ paid a courtesy call and it was warmly welcomed by the Municipal Vice Mayor ๐๐จ๐ง. ๐๐ฌ๐๐ ๐๐ง๐ข ๐. ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ together with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer and the ECCD/SFP Focal. The vice mayor is thankful to the team, as they chose this municipality as one of their areas for conducting these studies, and they also mobilized their support for the DOST-FNRI team during the data collection period, providing the necessary assistance and resources.
During the data collection period in Kabasalan, key informant interviews were conducted with program implementers such as Child Development Workers, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers, and the Early Childhood Care and Development/Supplementary Feeding Program Focal Person. Anthropometric measurements of young learners were also taken, records were reviewed, interviews and focus group discussions were conducted with parents/caregivers of 2 Child Development Centers.
