Forty (40) students from eight (8) secondary schools in the Municipality of Ibajay successfully completed the Peer Educators Training held on July 8โ€“9, 2026, in Poblacion, Ibajay, Aklan. The activity brought together five (5) student representatives from each participating school, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become effective peer educators and advocates for adolescent health in their respective schools and communities.

The two-day training focused on enhancing the participants' understanding of adolescent health and development, leadership, communication, and peer education. Through interactive lectures, workshops, group activities, and team-building exercises, the participants were empowered to become positive role models and trusted sources of information who can inspire and influence their fellow youth toward making informed and responsible life choices.

Following the training, the newly trained peer educators are expected to work closely with the Ibajay Primary Care Facility in implementing Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) programs and activities within their schools and communities. Their active participation will help strengthen youth-friendly initiatives, promote healthy lifestyles, encourage responsible decision-making, and foster a supportive environment where young people can learn, grow, and thrive.

The training was spearheaded by the Ibajay Primary Care Facility under the leadership of Dr. Noralyn Laserna, whose unwavering commitment to adolescent health and youth development greatly contributed to the success of the activity. The facility also generously provided accommodation for the facilitators from the Aklan Peer Educators, ensuring a smooth and well-organized implementation of the two-day training.

The Aklan Provincial Population and Gender Office (AKPPGO) and the Aklan Peer Educators extend their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Noralyn Laserna and the entire Ibajay Primary Care Facility team for their exceptional leadership, warm hospitality, and invaluable support. Special thanks are likewise extended to Ms. Precious Pelayo, Municipal Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) Coordinator, for her dedication and assistance in organizing and coordinating the activity. The organizers also express their sincere gratitude to the participating secondary schools for allowing their students to take part in this meaningful capacity-building initiative.

The Aklan Provincial Population and Gender Office (AKPPGO), in partnership with the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), successfully conducted an Upgrading Training for Peer Educators entitle "Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) Training" for the Municipal Federations of Peer Educators and officers of the Aklan Peer Educators on July 4, 2026, at the Aklan Training Center, Old Buswang, Kalibo, Aklan.

The training aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of youth leaders in project implementation and digital communication, equipping them to become more effective advocates for adolescent health and youth development in their respective communities.

Participants attended sessions on Project Management, facilitated by Michaella Ningal, and Social Media Management using Canva, led by Janica Anne Dela Peรฑa. Both sessions provided practical strategies and tools that will help peer educators effectively plan activities, create engaging advocacy campaigns, and maximize social media platforms in reaching fellow young people.

A total of 11 Municipal Federations of Peer Educators participated in the activity, demonstrating their commitment to continuous learning and capacity building in support of youth-centered programs and initiatives.

AKPPGO extends its sincere appreciation to the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO) for its valuable partnership in making the training possible. Likewise, heartfelt thanks are extended to the Aklan Peer Educators and the Municipal Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) Coordinators for their unwavering support and for allowing their peer educators to participate in this meaningful learning opportunity.
