Big things are happening for our coconut farmers! 🥥

It’s great to see the COCO Academy and CFIDP bringing real, boots-on-the-ground support to coconut farmers in Aklan. By empowering the Man-Up Multi-Purpose Cooperative with the different programs and intervention from CFIDP, we’re moving beyond just farming and into building a sustainable industry for Aklan.

Appreciated the efforts of our Philippine Coconut Authority - Western Visayas especially our Regional Manager, Dr. Neil J. Melencion and PDO III, Ellen Espada. Also, the dedicated coconut farmers and members of Man-up MPC.

Excited to see this pilot project grow and strengthen our local communities. Onwards and upwards! 🌴🚀

Empowering 25 coconut farmer scholars through skills training 🌴

ADC Farm Training and Assessment Center, a TESDA accredited training center, recently hosted a Training Induction Program focused on processing and marketing coconut coir fiber. During the session, 25 coconut farmer scholars took a deep dive into the current state of the coconut industry and the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan, gaining valuable understanding of the hurdles and opportunities facing the sector today.

With PCA providing the industry roadmap and TESDA delivering the technical training, we are empowering coconut farmers to take charge of their own success. It’s a collective effort to transform the industry and ensure our farmers thrive in a modern market.

PCA Aklan Leads Coconut Farmers’ Integration Training with ATI Western Visayas

KALIBO, Aklan -- The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) in Aklan recently led coconut farmers in the “Training on Coconut-Native Chicken Integration Batch I” at GLS Integrated Agricultural Farm.

In partnership with the Agricultural Training Institute Western Visayas (ATI Western Visayas), the agency organized the activity to promote sustainable and diversified farming practices among local farmers.

"Pinaagi sa programa it atun ahensya (PCA), raya ro maga bulig nga mabuhinan ro mga gin identify nga problema it Coconut Industry, eabi gid para sa atung mga coconut farmers." said Feelmer John Sasis, Senior Agriculturist.

(The programs of PCA will help alleviate the problems the Coconut Industry faces especially for our coconut farmers as well.)

On the opening day of training, PCA facilitators introduced participants to the history of PCA, the magnitude and significance of the coconut industry. They explained its economic contribution and outlined the challenges that farmers currently face.

By presenting this information, the trainers ensured that all participants, regardless of prior experience, started with a shared and informed perspective.

PCA representatives also discussed the agency’s key programs that support coconut farmers.

They highlighted the Coconut Farmers and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) as a major initiative that strengthens the industry.

“The CFIDP seeks to: increase the productivity and income of coconut farmers’; poverty alleviation, education, and social equity; and rehabilitation and modernization of the Coconut Industry toward farm productivity.” said Anna Rose Cuales, Community Development Officer.

Through clear and direct discussions, they showed how these programs help farmers improve productivity and adopt more resilient farming methods.

The trainers emphasized that the CFIDP delivers essential services, including access to funding, training, and social protection programs from the government.

"Under sa Social Protection Component it CFIDP, may atun na nga gina-implement na Hospitalization and Medical Care Program, dugang ini nga bulig para sa atun nga mga coconut farmers nga maospital o magkinahanglan sang medical care," said Kassandra Basan, Social Worker.

(Under the Social Protection Component of CFIDP, we are now implementing the Hospitalization and Medical Care Program, another assistance to the coconut farmers that needs medical care.)

They explained the program’s guidelines and demonstrated how farmers can benefit from these services. By doing so, they reinforced the government’s commitment to uplifting coconut farming communities.

As the training continues, participants engaged in hands-on learning about coconut-native chicken integration.

Organizers expect that farmers will apply these techniques to maximize land use and generate additional income.

Through this initiative, PCA and ATI Western Visayas aim to equip farmers in Aklan with practical skills that will strengthen the agricultural sector and improve livelihoods.

Araw ng Kagitingan: Honor in Resilience

We celebrate Araw ng Kagitingan to honor the valor of the defenders of Bataan, whose sacrifice remains the ultimate symbol of Filipino grit. Today, that same spirit lives on in our coconut industry.

The Struggle:Much like the veterans of 1942, our coconut farmers—the industry's backbone—weather systemic poverty, volatile markets, and climate crises with unwavering endurance.

The Modern Heroes: Industry players, from smallholders to sustainable exporters, are the new "defenders" of our economic heritage, fighting to transform the "Tree of Life" into a global powerhouse.

PCA takes part in celebrating Araw ng Kagitingan as we honor the past by empowering the present. True bravery is not just surviving the siege; it is the daily labor of cultivating a future where no Filipino worker is left behind.
