The DTI Aklan Team held its Provincial Management Review (PMR) yesterday, August 5, onsite at the DTI Aklan Provincial Office and online via Zoom.

The meeting tackled about the office’s accomplishments and key initiatives for the month of July 2026, following the series of various activities undertaken and participated.

The meeting was headed by OIC-Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto, with active participation from the Business Development Unit (BDU) together with the Negosyo Center, Industry Development Unit (IDU), and Consumer Protection Unit (CPU).

This monthly review ensures that the team continues to align its programs and initiatives with the agency’s mission of fostering inclusive growth for the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and consumer protection in the province of Aklan.

🚀 Activating Province-Based Startups!

DTI Region VI, through its Provincial Offices, is bringing the Moonshot TNK ASPIRE Startup Bootcamp to its covered provinces under the 2026 Moonshot TNK Startup Development Program.

ASPIRE, or Activating Startups in Provinces through Innovation, Resources, and Enterprise Development, is a key component of the program and serves as a startup pipeline generation activity aimed at identifying, capacitating, and preparing province-based startups, student entrepreneurs, potential startup founders with innovation-driven solutions, startup-oriented MSMEs, and early-stage enterprises for mentorship, pitching, commercialization, and ecosystem support.

Aklan Welcomes 200 Participants for Western Visayas BIZCONEX on Wheels

The Western Visayas BIZCONEX on Wheels – Aklan Leg successfully rolled in the province of Aklan, bringing together 200 participants composed of government leaders, business organizations, development partners and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in a shared commitment to build a stronger, more resilient, and globally competitive local economy last July 23, 2026, at the ABL Sports Complex, Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan.

From meaningful policy discussions to practical business insights, the conference equipped entrepreneurs with new knowledge on green growth and sustainable business practices, export market opportunities, digital transformation, and MSME policy development—empowering them to innovate, expand, and thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

DTI 6 Acting Regional Director Mutya D. Eusores, during her welcome message, extended her overwhelming gratitude for the warm welcome of Aklanons and highlighted the big contribution of MSMEs in the nation’s economy and continued growth by providing jobs, generating opportunities, and keeping the local economies in moving forward.

Moreover, Atty. Jobert A. Peñaflorida, Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) VI - Economic Development Committee and Area Vice President of the PCCI - Visayas, Hon. Jesus R. Marquez, Congressman of the 1st District of Aklan, and Hon. Florencio T. Miraflores, Congressman of the 2nd District of Aklan, delivered their messages of support. Engr. Fulbert Woo, Regional Governor of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Region VI also graced the event.

One of the day's highlights was the Fireside Chat with Governor Jose Enrique M. Miraflores, also currently the Co-Chairperson of the Regional Development Council VI, who reaffirmed the Provincial Government's unwavering support for MSMEs through stronger collaboration, strategic investments, and programs that create more opportunities for business growth and economic prosperity. Ms. Celeen Denise M. Sazon-Abella, General Manager of Southwest Tours, served as the moderator while DTI-Aklan OIC-Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto introduced the honorable Governor.

Sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for MSMEs were also presented by Mr. Juler A. Fernandez, Owner of JAF Handicraft and Piña Industry. He reminded that through responsible resource use we can create a more sustainable world for the next generation. Motivational entrepreneurial stories of Aklanon homegrown MSMEs were also spotlighted wherein Ms. Sheree R. Reynaldo, Owner of Buttons n’ Things Arts and Crafts and Mr. Joseph P. Fernandez, Owner of Sunshine Breadmart, both shared their humble beginnings and how they were able to achieve their biggest breaks further giving inspiration to other MSMEs present as they navigate their own entrepreneurial journey.

The conference also became a platform for collaboration, where stakeholders worked together to identify policy recommendations that will help create a more responsive and enabling environment for MSMEs across the region.

Another major milestone of the event was the launch of the Paleng-QR PH Plus Program in Aklan, advancing financial inclusion and encouraging cashless transactions among market vendors, transport operators, and local businesses. This initiative marks another step toward creating a more digital-ready and future-proof business environment for Aklan's entrepreneurs.

Side activities were also showcased during the event with the MSME Help Desk, in collaboration with the various National Government Agencies which provided assistance to the MSMEs in order to avail of their respective programs and services. A Market Matching Activity was also held wherein products of start-ups and youth entrepreneurs were spotlighted, giving them a venue to partner with other entrepreneurs and potentially work together afterwards.

During his closing message, DTI 6 Acting Asst. Regional Director Romel L. Amihan, provided a wrap-up of the highlights and segments of the whole-day event. He aspires that the event leads to a more responsive, enabling, and resilient business environment for the entrepreneurs.

The event was a proof that when the government, private sector, and the entrepreneurial community unite, we create many opportunities that empower businesses, generate jobs, and drive inclusive and sustainable development for all.

Cultivating Knowledge. Growing Opportunities. Harvesting Success. ☕🍫

The DTI - Aklan Provincial Office, in partnership with the Aklan Cacao and Coffee Council, conducted the Training on Cacao and Coffee Cultural Management Practices last July 21-24, 2026 at Aklan AIM Cooperative, Tambuan, Malinao, Aklan.

The four-day training equipped participants with practical and science-based farming techniques to produce healthier crops, improve yields, and ensure sustainable farm management. Leading the training was Mr. Relvin Paragua, Agriculturist II, with the assistance of Mr. Carlo Biton and Mr. Jannsen Mark Compliza, who guided participants through essential cultural management practices—from proper field maintenance and nutrient management to pest and disease control—helping farmers unlock the full potential of their coffee and cacao farms.

More than just a training, this initiative empowers farmers with the right knowledge and technologies, helping them enhance product quality, increase productivity, improve household incomes, and build resilient agricultural enterprises that can compete in wider markets.

DTI-Aklan and PCCI-HRDF Conduct Cyber Hygiene Trainings in the Province of Aklan

The Department of Trade and Industry – Aklan Provincial Office, in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (PCCI HRDF), conducted a series of Cyber Hygiene Trainings in the province of Aklan from July 7-27, 2026.

As the first province to roll out the activity in Western Visayas, a total of 17 runs were successfully conducted covering all the municipalities, through the assistance of the Negosyo Center Business Counselors and the Local Government Units (LGUs). As a result, more than 900 micro, small, and medium enterprises, business organizations, and LGU employees were capacitated on cyber hygiene.

“This Cyber Hygiene Training is indeed relevant in today’s digital environment where online scams and other online risks have become rampant. We hope that the participants maximize their learnings and help us spread awareness in ensuring that online transactions are done correctly and safely,” says OIC-Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto.

Mr. Ronald So and Ms. Cherry Pearl Lopez from the PCCI HRDF served as the Resource Speakers of the activity which focused on the concept of cyber hygiene and understanding its fundamentals; practical tips to secure mobile devices used in personal or business transactions; and, equipping the participants with the skills to navigate the Internet safely and confidently. They were also joined by Ms. Raissa V. Juada, who assisted during the implementation of the trainings.

On its ninth and last day of implementation, the DTI - Aklan Provincial Office, in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Human Resource Development Foundation, Inc. (PCCI HRDF) conducted another two runs of the Cyber Hygiene Trainings in the municipalities of Tangala and Ibajay today, July 27.

Mr. Ronald So from PCCI HRDF served as the Resource Speaker of the activity which focused on cyber hygiene including topics on the concept of cyber hygiene and understanding its fundamentals; practical tips to secure mobile devices used in personal or business transactions; and, equipping the participants with the skills to navigate the Internet safely and confidently.

Special thanks to the LGUs, the Negosyo Centers thru the Business Counselors, and to all the stakeholders who contributed to the success of today’s runs.

Aklanon MSME Wins 2nd Top Seller Award During National Exporters’ Fair 2026 Closing Ceremony

Elizabeth Rasonable Piña Weaving from Banga, Aklan, placed as the 2nd Top Seller Awardee, during the recently-concluded DTI-Bagong Pilipinas National Exporters’ Fair 2026 held on July 22-26, 2026, at the Megatrade Halls 1-3, Level 5, Mega B, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City. They stood out among the more than 200 exhibitors coming from the different provinces and regions in the country.

An Aklanon-based local enterprise owned by Ms. Elizabeth Rasonable, the enterprise started as a small family business. Throughout the years, they have continuously strived in their craft and innovated Red Spanish pineapple into world-class piña-based products ranging from piña cloth, dresses, barongs and even fashion accessories.

During the five-day fair, they received overwhelmingly positive feedback from buyers and visitors. As a result, they achieved the second-highest total sales, combining both cash and booked transactions, with purchases coming from local businesses as well as international buyers. This strong market response reflects the exceptional quality of their products and highlights their export readiness to international markets.

Other MSMEs featured were La Herminia Fibers and Looms, Silver Handicrafts, Raquel’s Piña Cloth Products, Reycons Piña Cloth, Faith Native Products and Sunshine’s Breadmart, who have showcased the best of Aklanon products in the national trade fair scene.

“Elizabeth Rasonable’s win, is not only a win for their enterprise but a big win for the piña weaving industry in the province of Aklan. Time and time again, we have proven that this timeless tradition continue to bring us with a sense of pride,” says DTI-Aklan OIC-Provincial Director Grace M. Benedicto.
