BLMP TRAININGโ€”BATCH 3

The Kapangan Rural Health Unit headed by Ms. Charmaine L. Patil-ao, PHN 2/ OIC-MHO, successfully conducted the BLMP Training on September 28โ€“29, 2026, with active participation from the barangays of Cuba, Beleng-Belis, Pudong, and Taba-ao.

The training provided participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to strengthen community-based health services, improve coordination, and enhance the delivery of quality healthcare at the barangay level.

The Kapangan RHU extends its appreciation to all participants for their active participation, commitment, and continued support in promoting better health outcomes in their communities.

Let us turn knowledge into action! We encourage our barangay health workers, community leaders, families, and residents to work together, take an active role in health promotion, and support one another in building healthier communities. The Municipality of Kapangan, through the Kapangan Rural Health Unit, actively participated in the Benguet Province Nutrition Month Celebration and Breastfeeding Awareness Month held on September 28, 2026, at the Benguet Provincial Capitol, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The celebration brought together various municipalities and stakeholders in promoting proper nutrition, breastfeeding, environmental stewardship, and sustainable health practices.

Kapangan participated in the various activities prepared for the celebration and proudly achieved the following:

SHANUM PACKAGE TURN-OVER

The Municipality of Kapangan is one of the receipient for the SHANUM Package.

The SHANUM Package is one of the components under the SHANUM Initiatives that was developed from the 2025 Policy Brief, by CHD CAR Team (Ms. Melanie June Pucay, Engr. Julius Solano and Mr. Puely Copero)
on strengthening drinking water quality surveillance. The package shall enable the LGU to conduct water sampling and testing, identify potential sources of contamination, promote household water treatment and safe storage practices, and facilitate timely preventive and corrective actions.

The package includes a Drinking Water Testing Kit (portable incubator, UV light, and UV cabinet), Water Sampling Kits, microbiological reagents, sampling bottles, water disinfectants, LDWQMC Manuals, Philippine National Standard for Drinking Water (PNSDW) Manuals, and SBCC materials.

The package is designed to conduct a continuous cycle of surveillance and health promotion. Through this routine, the LGU will be able to identify water quality concerns and use the findings to come up with appropriate interventions. The materials and water disinfectants shall further support in providing practical health education at the community level (WASH and LEARN โ€“ Learning Engagement and Action to Reinforce and Nurture a healthier community through safe WASH practices).

The package will also assist the LDWQMC in developing and implementing their Local Drinking Water Quality Surveillance Program that will respond to identified gaps in water supply infrastructure, water governance, testing resources, as well as risks associated with waterborne diseases. Through the use of surveillance data, the committee can progressively establish Water Safety Plans (WSPs) for their respective water sources and ensure the delivery of safe drinking water to communities.

BHW MEETING AND OATH-TAKING CEREMONY

The Kapangan Rural Health Unit, headed by Ms. Charmaine L. Patil-ao, OIC-MHO, conducted the BHW Meeting and Oath-Taking Ceremony on September 21, 2026, at the 3rd Floor, RHU Building, Tumpic, Labueg, Kapangan, Benguet.

The activity included the oath-taking of the newly elected BHW Federation Officers, administered by Hon. Harris M. Dizon, Municipal Mayor. This was followed by the formal endorsement and turnover of responsibilities from the outgoing Federation President to the newly elected officers.

An orientation for the newly elected officers was also conducted to clarify their roles, responsibilities, and functions in supporting the implementation of community health programs and services.

The activity concluded with a BHW meeting to discuss important matters, strengthen coordination, and promote continued collaboration in delivering quality and responsive health services to the community.

The Kapangan RHU expresses its appreciation and continued support to all BHWs for their dedication and commitment to serving the people of Kapangan.

LOCAL HEALTH BOARD MEETING

The Municipality of Kapangan conducted its Local Health Board Meeting on September 17, 2026, bringing together key health stakeholders to discuss pressing health concerns, program implementation, and priority actions for the community.

The meeting provided an avenue to strengthen collaboration, enhance coordination, and support informed decision-making toward the delivery of accessible, responsive, and quality health services for all Kapanganons.

The Municipality of Kapangan participated in Bayang Malusog Leadership and Governance Program (BMLGP) Monitoring & Evaluation Validation activity by the Zuellig Family Foundation at the 3rd floor, RHU building, Tumpic, Labueg, Kapangan, Benguet.

The activity aims to review and validate health and PHIC YAKAP indicators, review status of BMLGP document submission and validation of NCD roadmap. The team also discussed the ways forward after the validation.

This activity aims to strengthen knowledge and practices on proper food handling, sanitation, and food safety to help prevent foodborne illnesses and protect the health of our community.

๐Ÿ’‰ RAPID CONVENIENCE MONITORING (RCM) FOR MR-SIA

Kapangan, Benguet โ€” The Rapid Convenience Monitoring (RCM) Team, composed of personnel from the Benguet Provincial Department of Health Office (PDOHO), Benguet Provincial Health Office (PHO), and Kapangan Rural Health Unit (RHU), conducted house-to-house monitoring across the barangays of Kapangan as part of the Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA).

The team visited households to check the vaccination status of children aged 6โ€“59 months and verify whether they had received the MR vaccine and Vitamin A supplementation. This activity helped identify children who may have been missed and ensured that eligible children are protected against measles and rubella.

All parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure that their children are vaccinated against measles. If they have not yet been vaccinated, please visit your nearest Barangay Health Station until September 4, 2026.
