Science and technology interventions only mean something when they actually reach the people who need them most.

On July 23, 2026, focal persons and implementers of the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) and Smart Sustainable Communities Program (SSCP), alongside local government units, state universities and colleges, and partner stakeholders gathered at the Camiguin Convention Center in Mambajao, Camiguin for a conference designed to strengthen collaboration and maximize the real-world impact of science and technology programs in communities across the region.

Through project presentations, experience-sharing sessions, panel discussions, and networking activities, participants exchanged knowledge, celebrated milestones, learned from challenges, and identified strategies to ensure that every s&t-based intervention becomes a sustainable and measurable change in the lives of the communities they serve.

Together, we keep turning projects into impact, one community at a time. 🌱

Through this initiative, residents of Barangays Kahayagan and La Libertad gain a reliable solution that will help protect families from water-related health risks, especially during emergencies and challenging situations.

With the support of science, technology, and strong local leadership, Kapatagan continues to advance initiatives that promote the health, safety, and well-being of its communities.

𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐒 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲

The Municipality of Kapatagan takes an important step toward building a more resilient and prepared community with the inauguration of two units of SAFEWATRS (Safe Water Treatment System) technology on July 14 at the Kapatagan Municipal Hall.

The newly turned-over units will serve Barangay Kahayagan and Barangay La Libertad, providing these communities with a reliable source of safe and potable drinking water, especially during emergencies, disasters, and situations where access to clean water is limited.

Through this initiative, Kapatagan is enhancing its capacity to respond to water-related challenges while strengthening disaster preparedness and community resilience. The mobile water purification system can help convert unsafe water sources into clean drinking water, making it a valuable resource for geographically isolated areas and communities affected by emergencies.

Implemented through the Department of Science and Technology’s Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program, the SAFEWATRS technology serves as a science-based solution to support local efforts in ensuring water security. Developed by the DOST–Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), the solar-powered system is designed for easy operation and rapid deployment, producing up to 170 liters of safe drinking water per cycle while meeting Philippine drinking water standards.

Representing Kapatagan Mayor Hon. Beth Baguio-Ali during the ceremony was Sangguniang Bayan Member Hon. Russel Jun Oredimo, together with DOST Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Engr. Roy C. Sagrado, DOST-ITDI trainers, LGU personnel, and community beneficiaries.

With the adoption of SAFEWATRS, Kapatagan continues to demonstrate its commitment to leveraging science, technology, and innovation in creating safer, more resilient, and sustainable communities.

Engr. Reanel T. Cuesta, EnP, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC) of the Local Government Unit of Kapatagan, was among the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators (MPDCs) across the Province of Lanao del Norte who were conferred a Plaque of Recognition by the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte during the celebration of Environment Day of the 67th Araw ng Lanao del Norte on July 1, 2026, at Mt. Turong-Turong, Kakai Renabor, Tubod, Lanao del Norte.

The award was presented in recognition of the MPDCs invaluable support and steadfast commitment to the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte. They were commended for their exemplary dedication, outstanding performance, and significant contributions to local planning and development, as well as for their unwavering support for provincial development initiatives and the advancement of good governance across the province.

LGU Kapatagan extends its heartfelt congratulations to Engr. Reanel T. Cuesta, EnP, for this well-deserved recognition. Her achievement reflects the municipality's continued commitment to excellence in public service and reinforces its shared vision of fostering sustainable development and responsive governance for the people of Kapatagan and the Province of Lanao del Norte.
