𝗟𝗜𝗕𝗥𝗔𝗥𝗬 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐋𝐄 𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗘 || OSHC-REU XII visits Campus Learning Resource Center, donates books & posters for Safety and Health awareness

The Office of the Occupational Safety and Health Center - Regional Extension Unit XII, headed by their Program Manager, Ms. Mary Joy Amparan Pandac, along with other members of the Agency, came and visited the USM-KCC Learning Resource Center last November 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM.

OSHC, an attached Agency of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), was established as the nationally recognized authority on safety and health research, training, information and technical expertise. In partnership with the different public and private sectors, this Agency pursues the attainment of a healthy and safe working environment through responsive and sustainable OSH programs and policies that aim to increase productivity and foster linkages that will benefits workers in all industries.

As part of their initiative to promote awareness on safety and health in the library workspace, the Regional Extension Unit represented by Ms. Pandac generously donated eight ( 8 ) copies of books on the Occupational Safety and Health Standards published by DOLE, along with posters and/or banners for display, which showcase various tips, instructions and precautions concerning the work environment.

This activity has strengthened the establishment of strong linkages across other government sectors and displayed a valuable support for the vision and mission of the Campus Library in providing a safe, healthy, and comfortable space for Librarians and students alike.

The Librarians of the Learning Resource Center extend their gratitude towards the OSHC for their contribution to this cause.

𝗨𝗦𝗠 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗦 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 ₱𝟲𝟬𝟬𝗞 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱-𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀!

From the court to the stage, the University of Southern Mindanao (USM) once again turned passion into podiums, proving that excellence at USM is not just a goal—it’s a tradition.

USM showcased its athletic and cultural prowess at the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools (MASTS) Friendship Games and Socio-Cultural Festival 2025, held from October 25–30 in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental, securing two second-place overall finishes and bringing home a total of ₱600,000 in cash incentives.

The University placed second overall in both the Sports and Socio-Cultural categories, reaffirming its stronghold as one of Mindanao’s top-performing State Universities and Colleges (SUCs). USM’s athletes and performers delivered stellar performances, earning 57 gold, 39 silver, and 53 bronze medals in sports, and 93 points in the socio-cultural tilt.

In recognition of these achievements, the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental awarded USM ₱300,000 each for its success in both categories—a testament to the University’s consistent pursuit of excellence.

For Joshua Abraham Ferrer, team captain of the USM Men’s Volleyball Team, the victory represents the spirit of teamwork and perseverance shared by every player.

“It means a lot po. Hindi lang kasi siya para sa akin—it’s also for my coach, teammates, and of course, for USM, and everyone who’s been part of my journey since day one po,” Ferrer shared.

Gold medalist Jayniegel G. Tua, who successfully defended her title in the Solo Creative (Bebas) category of Pencak Silat, also highlighted the importance of unity and trust within the team.

“’Di ko ramdam ‘yung pagod at sakit ng katawan kasi andyan teammates ko kaya magaan at masaya,” Tua said.
“Lahat ng pagod at sakripisyo nagbunga, at itong panalo ay para din sa seniors namin na nag-try makamit ang gold. Maniwala lang—maniwala sa sarili, sa teammate, at sa sistemang binuo ng team. Maniwala na kaya niyo.”

Guided by the theme “Empowering Youth, Strengthening Accountability: Building a Responsible Nation Through Sports, Culture, and the Arts,” this year’s MASTS gathered 36 SUCs from across Mindanao, celebrating unity, excellence, and youth leadership through sports and culture.

As the curtains close on MASTS 2025, USM stands tall with pride—its victories reflecting not only talent and discipline but also the unyielding dedication and spirit that define the University of Southern Mindanao.
