More than 5,000 disadvantaged workers across SOCCSKSARGEN have been mobilized through the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) Program to help prepare public schools for the opening of classes while providing much-needed emergency employment to vulnerable sectors.
From March to June 2026, DOLE Region XII spearheaded a series of TUPAD rollouts in partnership with the Department of Educationโs (DepEd) Brigada Eskwela Program, deploying 5,011 beneficiaries to 163 public schools across the region. The initiative covered 2,205 classrooms and provided temporary employment opportunities to workers affected by economic challenges and limited livelihood opportunities.
Under the program, beneficiaries rendered 20 days of work and will receive a daily wage of PHP460.00, along with group insurance coverage. The implementation represents a total assistance package amounting to PHP47.48 million.
The workers were engaged in various school rehabilitation and improvement activities, including campus clean-up and sanitation, repair and repainting of facilities, restoration of school fixtures and furniture, landscaping and beautification, and the declogging and desilting of drainage systems to ensure safe and learner-ready school environments.
For many beneficiaries, the program serves as both a source of income and an opportunity to contribute to their communities.
Jomer T. Tamdang, one of the TUPAD beneficiaries, shared that the program provided timely assistance given the seasonal nature of his work. He expressed gratitude to DOLE for the opportunity, saying that the temporary employment enables him to support his familyโs needs while helping prepare schools for the incoming school year through Brigada Eskwela activities.
Meanwhile, Wilhem V. Paciente, a parent and TUPAD beneficiary assigned in a remote school, said he was thankful that the program reached their community despite its distance from urban centers. He added that the income from the program would help cover the educational needs of his children who are also preparing to enroll this school year. Paciente likewise expressed hope that the government would continue implementing TUPAD to extend assistance to more individuals and families in need.
