The Department of Trade and Industry Region 12 (DTI XII), in line with its mandate to protect consumer welfare and promote fair trade practices, continues to strengthen its price and supply monitoring efforts across SOCCSKSARGEN.
Through its Consumer Protection Divisions, DTI XII regularly monitors the prices, availability, and movement of basic necessities and prime commodities (BNPC) to ensure a stable and transparent marketplace.
In General Santos City, monitoring activities covering business establishments offering BNPC goods showed that prices remain stable, with no significant or unreasonable increases observed. Establishments were found compliant with prevailing price regulations, reinforcing the Department’s continuing efforts to uphold consumer protection and fair pricing.
In Sarangani Province, monitoring activities in the municipality of Alabel covered rice retailers, grocery stores, school and office supply outlets, and hardware centers. Prices of rice, BNPC goods, agricultural products, medical devices, and school supplies were generally stable, indicating a consistent pricing environment across sectors. However, slight increases were noted in selected construction materials, particularly G.I. sheets, roofing materials, and marine plywood. Despite these movements, supply conditions remained sufficient, with establishments maintaining adequate stock levels and receiving regular deliveries from suppliers.
Separate monitoring on imported rice in Sarangani further revealed limited availability of traditional imported brands, with retailers offering alternative varieties such as Kohaku Plus, Alas (Jasmine), Mr. Chow (Japonica), and Kohaku (Jasmine), with prices exceeding the prescribed ceiling due to higher acquisition costs of previously procured stocks.
In Cotabato Province, monitoring activities in Kidapawan City confirmed that supply levels of BNPC goods and school supplies remain sufficient to meet consumer demand. Most price movements were within the Suggested Retail Prices (SRP), with only minimal deviations observed. Establishments were also seen preparing and organizing stocks in anticipation of the upcoming school opening, supported by continuous and timely deliveries. Information, education, and communication materials were likewise distributed to strengthen awareness of consumer rights and responsibilities.
In Sultan Kudarat, price and supply monitoring in Tacurong City showed that prices of basic necessities and prime commodities remained generally stable. While minor increases were observed among selected items, these remained within the SRP range. Notably, decreases in the prices of sugar and rice were recorded, providing relief to consumers. Monitoring also confirmed the absence of hoarding or delivery manipulation, while agricultural products and medical supplies remained adequately available in the market.
In South Cotabato, monitoring activities in Koronadal City focused on establishments selling school supplies, BNPC goods, and construction materials, where most establishments complied with SRPs and maintained adequate inventory levels. Minor violations were promptly addressed through advisories and warnings, reinforcing adherence to trade laws and ensuring continued consumer protection.
Overall, monitoring results across Region 12 indicate that prices of basic necessities and prime commodities remain generally stable, with sufficient supply maintained across key markets. While isolated price increases were observed in certain sectors such as construction materials and imported rice, these continue to be closely monitored to ensure compliance with existing policies.
DTI XII remains committed to its mandate of promoting consumer welfare, ensuring price stability, and fostering a fair and competitive market environment across SOCCSKSARGEN.
