The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office XI (DSWD FO XI) is set to mark a historic milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony of the DSWD Academy Mindanao on May 21, 2026, at the Regional Government Center in Bago Oshiro, Davao City.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the official launch of what is envisioned to become Mindanaoโs premier learning and development facility for social welfare and public service professionals.
With an approved budget of โฑ50 million under the Design and Build Scheme, the DSWD Academy Mindanaoโalso referred to as the DSWD XI Learning Institute Buildingโsignals the agencyโs strong commitment to investing in people, strengthening institutions, and preparing a future-ready workforce dedicated to serving vulnerable communities across the region.
More than just a building, the Academy represents a bold step toward elevating the standards of public service through continuous learning, innovation, collaboration, and leadership development.
Once completed, the facility will serve as a dynamic venue for capability-building activities, conferences, trainings, and large-scale learning engagements for DSWD personnel and partners throughout Mindanao.
The Academy will feature:
โ
A modern main training hall with approximately 500 seating capacity
โ
Flexible meeting and learning spaces
โ
Smart ICT systems and LED wall audiovisual facilities
โ
Disaster-resilient and sustainable building design
โ
Rainwater collection and natural lighting systems
โ
Inclusive and accessible facilities compliant with the 2024 Revised BP 344 IRR for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and gender-inclusive access
The facility is expected to accommodate approximately 644 persons and will embody both functionality and cultural identity through its brutalist-inspired exterior and interior design elements influenced by โhabiโ or weaving patterns and Maharlika-inspired aesthetics.
The groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes not only the beginning of infrastructure development, but also the beginning of a stronger and more empowered DSWD workforce equipped to respond to the evolving needs of Filipino communities.
As DSWD continues to champion responsive and compassionate governance, the DSWD Academy Mindanao stands as a lasting investment in knowledge, service excellence, and nation-building.
