๐ซ๐๐ฆ๐๐ฐ๐จ๐ซ๐ค | To ensure the technical soundness and long-term viability of proposed investments in the rubber sector, the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Mindanao Cluster conducted a consultation with rubber industry experts to assess pipeline rubber subprojects under the PRDP Scale-Up framework.
The activity was designed to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of rubber cooperatives seeking project funding, with emphasis on ensuring that proposed subprojects are economically viable, market-resilient, and adaptive to emerging climate risks affecting the rubber industry.
During the discussion, the experts provided technical insights on the current state of the rubber industry, including productivity challenges, market trends, and sustainability considerations. They also offered guidance on improving the design and implementation of proposed subprojects to ensure that these are aligned with industry standards and responsive to both local and global market demands.
In his message, PSO Mindanao Deputy Project Director Carlene C. Collado, CPA, on behalf of Project Director Macario D. Gonzaga, emphasized that there is a need to strengthen the value chain of rubber-based enterprises and to ensure that interventions under the PRDP Scale-Up will generate inclusive and sustainable economic benefits for participating cooperatives and communities.
The consultation brought together key experts in the field of rubber research and development, namely Mr. Alfonso Jack Sandique, Chairperson of the National Banner Program Committee on High-Value Crops for Rubber; Dr. Cheryl L. Eusala, Executive Director III of the Philippine Rubber Research Institute (participating via Google Meet); and Elline M. Ahig, MSA, Science Research Specialist II of the same institute, who also joined virtually.
The consultation forms part of PRDP Mindanao Clusterโs continuing efforts to reinforce evidence-based planning and strengthen project preparation processes, in line with the programโs commitment to inclusive rural development and climate-resilient agricultural investments.
By engaging sector experts early in the pipeline development stage, PRDP aims to enhance the quality of subproject proposals and ensure that public investments in the rubber sector translate into meaningful and sustainable rural growth across Mindanao.
