La Libertad, Negros Oriental

La Libertad, Negros Oriental Public Service Another has a prominent citizen pressing for the renaming to immortalize his liberation, by Hinoba-an natives, from the hands of tulisanes.

It was once called Barrio Hinoba-an and renamed as La Libertad to mark the residents’ successful repulse of the marauding brigands that regularly plundered the north at that time. The name La Libertad is also said to celebrate the local guerillas’ victorious resistance efforts during WWII. La Libertad attained the status of municipality in 1919. It was created a parish in 1935. Although typically

rural, with expanses of sugar cane fields and farms producing corn, copra, peanuts, soybeans and copra, La Libertad has areas of uncommon drama such as the Daras-an Range and Pacuan Valley, the plateaus of Bagtic and Eli, and Hinoba-an River. Among its recently discovered tourism assets are Mambulotan Springs and the caves of Pacuan, Danao and the so-called Marble Cave named after its unusual striated sculptural folds. La Libertad’s Francisco Absin Memorial Park was the top awardee in the 1952 National Community Beautification Contest.

SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED: BASIC WATER SEARCH AND RESCUE (WASAR) TRAINING

From July 27 to 30, 2026, the La Libertad Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) responders, led by Mr. Ritcho "Dondoy" Absin successfully finished the 4-day Basic Water Search and Rescue (WSAR) Training. The session was expertly facilitated by trainer Mr. Jeremiah F. Tabuniar.

The graduation of the trainees was made even more meaningful with the presence and support of Honorable Mayor Lawrence "Dodong Pikden" D. Limkaichong, Jr. Joining the event were also Mr. Ronie Facturan, Municipal Health Administrator, and Atty. Ver Jethro Balasabas, Municipal Treasurer of the LGU La Libertad.

By the end of the training, all participants demonstrated full competence in conducting basic water hazard assessments, selecting and using the right rescue tools, and performing safe, shore-based rescue techniques—vital capabilities especially as we prepare for heavy rains, floods, and other water-related disasters.

We commend our responders for their dedication to learn, train hard, and serve our community with greater readiness and safety. A more prepared La Libertad starts with a skilled and committed team!

PHIVOLCS-Dynaslope Conducts Equipment Maintenance in La Libertad

Yesterday, July 29, 2026, our community received vital support to strengthen our disaster monitoring systems as the PHIVOLCS-Dynaslope Deployment and Maintenance Team carried out essential maintenance and calibration activities right here in our municipality.

Project Technical Specialist Kate Justine Flores and Project Technical Assistant Clifford Nazal led the work, assisted by the team from the La Libertad Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO). The activity covered thorough maintenance of monitoring sensors and rain gauges, as well as precise rain gauge calibration, conducted at Sitio Dao, Barangay Manghulyawon, La Libertad, Negros Oriental.

Keeping these critical tools in optimal working condition ensures we get accurate, real-time data on rainfall and ground movement — information that is key to early warnings, proper risk assessment, and keeping every resident safe from hazards like floods and landslides.

Our gratitude goes to PHIVOLCS-Dynaslope for their continued partnership, and to our LDRRMO team for their dedication in safeguarding our communities.
