💡Farm Productivity Tip: Design your farm based on your workflow to make tasks simpler and faster to complete.

One of the things I learned from reading the book Atomic Habits by James Clear is to create obvious cues in our environment that will trigger our desired behavior.

As seedling producers, we need to keep an eye on our seedlings and ensure their soil is always moist.

Seedlings cannot store water for a more prolonged time, so we need to water them thoroughly, and even twice a day during warmer seasons, to prevent their soil from drying out.

However, our water source is quite far from our greenhouses, making the task much harder because there's a lot of friction with all the back and forth.

So I took this advice and redesigned our environment to make watering seedlings easier to accomplish.

I placed water drums right in front of our greenhouses and have at least one water drum per greenhouse.

Since making these changes, we water our seedlings on time and complete them before the day gets hotter.

It's such a small change, but it yielded a bigger shift in our daily farm tasks. This shows how powerful practicing environment design is.

So the next time you want to form a new farm habit or make a farm task much easier to get done, consider redesigning your environment and having multiple cues in your surroundings that will trigger your desired behavior.
