BENGUET KICK OFF ARBOR DAY AND ENVIRONMENT MONTH WITH TREE PLANTING AT PROPOSED TREE PARK

Governor Melchor Diclas - Benguet spearheaded the kick-off celebration of Arbor Day and Philippine Environment Month through a tree planting activity at the proposed Tree Park , formerly known as the Children's Park in Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Joining Governor Diclas were provincial officials, department heads, assistant department heads and national line agencies who gathered to plant tree seedlings.

The activity marks the beginning of month long observance of Environment Month, celebrsted every June pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 237 , which encourages greater public participation in protrction, enhancement and development of the environment. It also aligns with the annual observance of Philippine Arbor Day, institutionalized under Proclamatiin no. 643 and strengthened by Republic Act. no. 10176, promoting tree planting and environment stewardship across the nation.

The proposed Tree Park is envisioned to become a living showcase of the commitment of Benguet to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, environmental education and urban greening.

Studies continue to highlight the important role of tree in mitigating climate change , reducing soil erosion, improving air quality , conserving water resources and providing habita for wildlife. Tree planting activities also contribute to carbon sequestration, helping communities adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has consistently emphasized that tree planting and forest restoration are among the most effective community-based strategies for ecosystem rehabilitation and climate resilience.

The activity utilized various seedling provided by the Provincial Agriculturist's Office (PAgO).

The kick-off activity serves as a fitting reminder that every tree planted contributes to a lasting legacy on sustainablr development for the people of Benguet, supporting the vision of a Cleaner, Greener and HEALTHIER Benguet for generations to come.

A Safety and Health Training for Small- Scale Mining Operation was conducted to promote a safer and more responsible mining practices.

The two (2) day training program spearheaded by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau- Cordillera Administrative Region(MGB-CAR) in coordination with the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board ( PMRB) and Small- Scale Mining Associations aims to equip miners, operators and stakeholder with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent accidents, respond effectively to emergencies and comply with existing mining laws and regulations.

By empowering our miners with proper safety training and emergency response skills, we are protecting lives, strengthening communities and ensuring that mining activities in Benguet are conducted responsibly and sustainably."

The training concluded with a session on accident report and Investigation, stressing the importance of reporting procedures, documentation and root- cause analysis to prevent future accidents.
