My 13 year old daughter asked me: Daddy, are we becoming like America?
Me: Why?
She: Have you not read or heard about the shooting in a school where students were killed?
Me: The shooting in Tacloban? How did you come to know of it?
She: Yes, I watched a video in Tiktok. They were talking about it in school.
By the way she talks and how she looked at me, she appears scared. She seemed worried. She might be thinking- should I not quit school?
Me: Why like America?
She: Are you not reading the news? Not watching Tiktok? Shooting. Shooting.
Indeed her concerns are worrisome.
Hearing our conversation, her brother told her: KA CECELPHONE MO LANG DAYTA.
But as a parent, I am worried. What if something will just flip?
And we ask: Is this tne result of too much Tiktok, FB, online games? Violent movies in Netflix, Prime Video? Too much emulating America? Or Korea?
Which reminds me an incident in one school in our locality- several young students called it a challege after they watched a Korean movie series in Netflix- they slashed their wrists creating several superficial scars!
We have laws. Some say our laws created a situation where discipline of our children is inexistent. Ask the teachers- many fear cases being filed rather than imposing discipline! Even parents temper their discipline!
She again asked: Why do they say the killers will not go to jail?
I was jolted. I just said, well that is the law. She seem nore confused than understanding what I was explaining.
Should we go back to the 70s or 80s? When discipline was really discipline. When the TV is black and white. When we have not heard of socmed, FB, Tiktok.
In this AI world, we are worried. Very worried.
