"Great technologies do not succeed because they are technically superior. They succeed because people understand their value."
This was the core message emphasized by Ms. Jovelyn P. Lao-e, faculty member of the College of Information Sciences (CIS), during the free webinar titled "Technology Pitching Seminar and Workshop" held on June 22, 2026, via Zoom.
Organized by the Regional Agri-Aqua Innovation System Enhancement (RAISE) Program in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) through its Regional Agribusiness Hub (ABH), the event aimed to equip researchers, innovators, and technology developers with the skills needed to effectively communicate the value and impact of their innovations.
The webinar formally opened with remarks from Dr. Karen B. Gaerlan, Project Leader ABH who presented the rationale, objectives, and significance of the activity. According to Dr. Gaerlan, the webinar sought to bridge the critical gap between research and development (R&D) and commercialization. She emphasized that innovations can only create meaningful impact when they reach and are adopted by their intended users, noting that effective communication and strategic pitching are essential in translating research outputs into practical solutions for communities and industries.
Serving as the resource speaker, Ms. Lao-e engaged participants by posing a thought-provoking question: โHow many of you have worked on research projects, product innovations, startup ideas, or technology solutions that you genuinely believe could make a difference? With those products that you have worked on, are those innovations or projects already being used by hundreds or thousands of individuals?โ
Throughout her presentation, Ms. Lao-e discussed the fundamentals of technology pitching and the key elements of a persuasive pitch deck. She highlighted strategies for effectively communicating the value proposition, societal impact, and commercialization potential of technologies to prospective buyers, industry partners, investors, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
She further underscored that many promising innovations fail to gain traction not because they lack potential, but because their value is not communicated clearly and convincingly.
Following the lecture, the program proceeded with a workshop orientation on pitch deck development facilitated by Ms. Clarisse Danis, Project Technical Assistant I of ABH. The orientation served as a preparatory session for the upcoming face-to-face Pitch Festival in Apayao State College (ASC) on July 2, 2026.
The webinar concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Gaerlan, who synthesized the key insights shared throughout the session and expressed her appreciation to Ms. Lao-e for her valuable contribution. Reinforcing the importance of purposeful communication in innovation promotion, she reminded participants that โa great pitch is not about impressing people; it is about moving people to action.โ
