The Provincial Government of Benguet, through the Provincial Agriculture Office, advises all farmers to take precautionary measures to minimize damage to crops, livestock, and farm properties in preparation for the approaching TROPICAL STORM MAYMAY!

✅ For Crops
Harvest mature and marketable crops ahead of the typhoon to minimize losses.
Strengthen trellises and other crop support structures to prevent damage.
Ensure proper drainage in vegetable gardens and rice fields to prevent waterlogging and soil erosion.
Store harvested produce in safe, elevated, and well-ventilated areas.
Secure farm inputs, such as seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, in waterproof containers or storage areas.

✅ For Livestock and Poultry
Transfer animals to safe, elevated, and well-ventilated shelters.
Stock sufficient feed and clean water in secure storage.
Ensure proper drainage in animal pens to prevent flooding.
Properly tie or confine animals to prevent them from being swept away by strong winds or floodwaters.

✅ For Farm Structures and Equipment
Reinforce roofs, greenhouses, nurseries, and other farm structures.
Disconnect and secure electrical equipment and irrigation pumps, especially in low-lying areas.
Store machinery, equipment, and farm tools in safe, covered, and elevated locations.

As part of the province's ongoing recovery and rehabilitation efforts to help farmers cope with the adverse impacts of the fuel crisis, the Provincial Government of Benguet distributed ₱5,000 each in Socio-Economic Relief Assistance to identified La Trinidad farmers on August 3, 2026, at the Ben Palispis Hall, Provincial Capitol, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The distribution was carried out by the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO) under Budget Ordinance No. 2026-06, a ₱20-million recovery package designed to assist around 4,000 affected farmers across the province.

Provincial Agriculturist Delinia D. Juan clarified that beneficiaries were selected based on specific eligibility criteria and were vetted to ensure they had not previously received similar support from the DA, DOLE, or DSWD.

Governor Melchor D. Diclas reiterated the province's firm dedication to supporting the agricultural sector and assisting farmers affected by unforeseen crises.

The distribution was attended by provincial officials led by Governor Melchor D. Diclas, Vice Governor Marie Rose Fongwan-Kepes, and members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

The KAKA-IIBAKA Benguet Small Water Irrigation System Association (SWISA) Federation successfully held its 1st General Assembly Meeting and Farmers' Community Consultation on 16th of July 2026 at the Benguet Indigenous People Cultural Heritage Site, Itogon, Benguet, gathering 150 participants from SWISAs, local government units, national agencies, and partner organizations.

A major highlight of the activity was the adoption of the Federation's Constitution and By-Laws, Articles of Incorporation, and Internal Rules and Regulations (IRR), providing a strong foundation for effective governance and organisational growth. The programme also featured a livestock community consultation, federation updates, and an open forum that strengthened collaboration among stakeholders.

The Provincial Agriculture Office provided technical assistance throughout the activity, reaffirming its commitment to empowering SWISAs and promoting the sustainable development of Small-Scale Irrigation Systems across Benguet.

𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝟐𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔- the Benguet Provincial Agriculture Office gathered Agricultural Extension Workers (AEWs) for a planning consultation at Gloriosa Hall, PAFEC, in Puguis, La Trinidad.

The consultation aimed to establish standardized and uniform agricultural data management practices across all municipalities. This involved reconciling and updating provincial and municipal farmer profiles against RSBSA records, building technical capacity among Municipal Agriculture Office personnel, and providing guidance on crop damage reporting protocols.

Through collaborative consultations between provincial and municipal offices, the initiative addresses data discrepancies to ensure accurate, consistent, and reliable records that effectively support agricultural planning and service delivery.

𝟐,𝟎𝟒𝟔 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞

A total of 2,046 identified farmers from the municipalities of Buguias and Mankayan who were affected by the fuel crisis received ₱5,000 each in Socio-Economic Relief Assistance under the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (PDRRM) Fund.

The assistance was distributed by the Provincial Government of Benguet (PLGU), through the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO), on July 16, 2026. Distribution activities were held at the Municipal Agriculture Office in Lamagan, Abatan, Buguias, and at the Municipal Gym in Poblacion, Mankayan.

Provincial Agriculturist Delinia D. Juan stated that the beneficiaries were selected based on specific eligibility criteria, including not having previously received similar assistance from the Department of Agriculture (DA), the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), or the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

In their message, Provincial Governor Hon. Melchor D. Diclas and Vice Governor Hon. Marie Rose Fongwan-Kepes reaffirmed the provincial government's continued commitment to supporting the local agricultural sector and assisting farmers affected by unforeseen crises.

Among the officials present during the distribution were Board Members Hon. Jim G. Botiwey, Hon. Lady Charmaine S. Molintas-Likigan, Hon. Mary Joy Sabo Fermin, Hon. Armando Lauro, Hon. Neptali B. Camsol, and Hon. Romeo K. Salda.

The relief initiative is funded under Budget Ordinance No. 2026-06, which allocated ₱20 million to provide assistance to approximately 4,000 affected farmers across the province. This initiative forms part of the province's ongoing recovery and rehabilitation efforts to help farmers cope with the adverse impacts of the fuel crisis.

The PLGU Benguet Team expressed its sincere gratitude to the municipal officials of Buguias and Mankayan, headed by Mayor Julius M. Amos and Mayor Cesar R. Pasiwen, respectively.
