Strengthening Community Resilience Through Environmental Action
The Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Labason actively participated in the Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation (CBDRR-CCA) Training last August 12-14, 2026 conducted by KALAHI-CIDSS at Brgy. Imelda and Lopoc Covered Court, with representatives from the 20 barangays of the Municipality of Labason.
As part of our mandate to promote environmental protection, conservation, and sustainable resource management, MAO and MENRO personnel served as Resource Speakers for key modules covering Climate Change and Nature-Based Solutions, Ecosystem Conservation, and the Local Government Unit’s environmental initiatives.
The discussion also highlighted relevant local ordinances, Executive Orders, programs, and initiatives of the LGU in addressing and managing solid waste pollution, emphasizing the shared responsibility of communities in keeping Labason clean, healthy, and environmentally sustainable.
Meanwhile, Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) was thoroughly discussed by CENRO Liloy Resource Person Mr. Jericho Tomlod, emphasizing the importance of protecting interconnected ecosystems through a “Ridge-to-Reef” approach. The session underscored that the conservation of forests, watersheds, rivers, wetlands, mangroves, seagrass beds, coral reefs, and coastal areas is essential in strengthening community resilience against disasters and the impacts of climate change.
Through strengthened knowledge, community participation, and inter-agency collaboration, the training aims to empower barangay representatives to become active partners in disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, environmental protection, and ecosystem conservation.
From the ridge to the reef, protecting nature means protecting our communities.
