|| The DA - Fisheries Biotechnology Center (FBC), hosted by DA-NFRDI, plays a vital role in advancing Philippine fisheries through science-based solutions that address key challenges in aquaculture. Through research in breeding, genetics, aquatic animal health, and biotechnology, the Center develops innovative tools and technologies that enhance productivity, resilience, and sustainability across the fisheries sector.

Beyond research, the Center bridges science and practice through capacity-building programs, technical assistance, and strong partnerships with academic, government, and industry stakeholders nationwide. [𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀] O-FISH-IALLY TRAINED: Fisheries students complete 500-hour aquaculture training at NFRDI-BFRDC

The training went beyond fulfilling an academic requirement, providing the students with an in-depth immersion in aquaculture through a combination of lectures, laboratory work, and hands-on activities that covered key operations including pond preparation, stocking, sampling, monitoring, and basic hatchery management.

Dr. Maria Theresa Mutia, Executive Director of DA-NFRDI, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the Civil Service Commission NCR, the Department of Agriculture, and the entire NFRDI family for their trust and support as she was named a Regional Qualifier for the 2026 Gawad Lingkod Bayan ng Pangulo (Individual) category. She described the recognition as both humbling and inspiring, underscoring her renewed commitment to advancing fisheries science and to serving the Filipino people with integrity and excellence alongside the hardworking NFRDI workforce.

𝐎-𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐇-𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐋𝐘 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐃: Fisheries students complete 500-hour aquaculture training at NFRDI-BFRDC

A journey of growth and discovery reached its peak as six students taking up a Diploma in Fisheries Technology major in Aquaculture from Mindanao State University at Naawan – College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences completed a 500-hour internship at the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute-Brackishwater Fisheries Research and Development Center (NFRDI-BFRDC) under the Students’ Training Support (STrainS) Program.

The training went beyond fulfilling an academic requirement, providing the students with an in-depth immersion in aquaculture through a combination of lectures, laboratory work, and hands-on activities that covered key operations including pond preparation, stocking, sampling, monitoring, and basic hatchery management.

The internship concluded on May 7, 2025, with the students presenting reports that highlighted the knowledge and experiences they gained throughout the training.

STrainS Program aims to strengthen students’ technical competencies, provide valuable exposure to practical aquaculture applications, and equip them with the skills and experience needed for their future roles as professionals in the fisheries and aquaculture industry.

|| Isang malugod na pagbati kay Dr. Maria Theresa Mutia, Scientist I at Executive Director ng DA-NFRDI, na pinarangalan bilang 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗚𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗼 (𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗼𝗿𝘆).

Ang parangal ay iginawad sa ginaganap na 2026 Regional Human Resource Management Practitioners’ Congress na may temang “Puso sa Serbisyo, Dangal sa Tungkulin, Galing sa Paglilingkod,” noong Mayo 12, 2026 sa Foro de Intramuros, Maynila.

Kami sa DA-NFRDI ay lubos na nagagalak at ipinagmamalaki ang iyong natamong pagkilala. Nawa’y patuloy kayong pagpalain ng mabuting kalusugan, kaligayahan, lakas, at higit pang tagumpay sa inyong pamumuno sa institusyon!
