BASILAN SCHOOLS DIVISION CELEBRATES
GLOBAL HANDWASHING DAY 2026

“Be a Handwashing Hero: Clean Hands, Healthy Future!”

The Basilan Schools Division, through the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE), led by the Health and Nutrition Section (HNS), joined the celebration of Global Handwashing Day on October 15, 2026, with schools across the division promoting proper handwashing with soap and water.

HNS personnel joined the celebration at Shipyard Elementary School, while participating schools conducted short health talks during flag ceremonies, displayed advocacy tarpaulins, organized school-wide handwashing drills, and held trivia activities to raise awareness on the importance of hand hygiene in preventing the spread of diseases.

Adding creativity to the celebration, six clusters participated in each category of the “Bottle of Clean Hands” Contest for elementary and secondary schools. The winning entry in each category will represent the Basilan Schools Division Office (SDO) in the regional contest.

Through these activities, the Basilan Schools Division continues to strengthen hygiene practices and support the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene in Schools (WINS) Program toward healthier and safer learning environments.

Clean hands save lives! Together, let us be handwashing heroes!

Bringing Light, Hope, and Smiles to Sucaten Primary School! ☀️📚

A brighter future is underway for the learners of Sucaten Primary School as JCI Manila turned over a brand-new, solar-powered classroom equipped with desk chairs and electric fans—creating a cooler, safer, and more conducive space for learning.

To make the day extra special, students were treated to new school bags and delicious Jollibee meals, bringing immense joy and big smiles to everyone! 🎒🐝✨

The meaningful event was graced by key leaders, showing strong cross-sector support for local education:

Special thanks to Project Chairman Emilio Ejercito and his team—Paco Rabat, Patrick Cillo, Al Jerom Santos, and James Ricohermoso—as well as JCI Manila members DE John David Roque, Jose Baligod Jr., Valentine Khoe, Matt See, Shoji Base, and JCI Philippines National Executive Director Henz Austria.

SDS Myra Borja Mangkabung shared her heartfelt gratitude to JCI Manila and all stakeholders for investing in Basilan’s youth, reminding us that every classroom built is a vital step toward accessible and quality education for all.
