MBHTE-UNICEF Conducts Joint Inception for “Every Child Learns” Project in Lamitan City

The Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) and UNICEF successfully conducted a joint inception meeting for the project titled “Every Child Learns: Quality Education for Marginalized Children in the Philippines” held at Abante Hall, BGC, Sta. Clara, Lamitan City.

The activity was facilitated by Mr. Rolando Villamero Jr., Education Specialist of UNICEF, and co-facilitated by Lamitan City CID Chief Jessie Paculdo and Division 5BS Focal Person Dr. Laura Belarmino. The event was attended by 20 school heads from recipient schools under the Lamitan City Schools Division.

The inception meeting aimed to orient school leaders on the goals, implementation strategies, and expected outcomes of the project designed to improve access to quality education for marginalized learners.

During the activity, Mr. Villamero presented the project overview, including its objectives, major components, and expected results. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts among schools, stakeholders, and partner institutions in ensuring the successful implementation of the program.

The discussion also covered the presentation of the project workplan, highlighting the roles and responsibilities of participating schools and education personnel. Coordination and reporting mechanisms were likewise discussed to ensure proper monitoring, evaluation, and smooth communication among all stakeholders involved in the project.

CID Chief Jessie Paculdo and Dr. Laura Belarmino likewise encouraged participating school heads to actively support and sustain the program initiatives in their respective schools to ensure that learners from marginalized communities receive quality and inclusive education.

School heads actively participated in the discussions and expressed their commitment to supporting the initiative. The program is expected to strengthen inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for children, particularly those belonging to underserved and marginalized sectors.

The MBHTE and UNICEF partnership continues to promote quality education and learner-centered programs that respond to the educational needs of children in the Bangsamoro region.

MAFAR Basilan Distributes 550 Seedling Packs to Lamitan Schools

A significant step toward strengthening school-based food sustainability programs was marked by the recent turnover of vegetable seedlings from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform (MAFAR) Basilan to the Lamitan City Schools Division.
Leading the initiative, HANIE MUADZ A. JUNUBAN, Provincial Director of MAFAR Basilan, through his representatives officially handed over approximately 550 packs of vegetable seedlings, consisting of six different varieties, to support school gardening efforts across the division.

The donation was formally received by Dr. TIM UNDAIN-SANCHEZ, Schools Division Superintendent, together with NOEL B. NOTARIO, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent. Both officials expressed their gratitude for the continued support of MAFAR in advancing agricultural awareness and food security initiatives in schools.

According to the Schools Division Office, the seedlings will be distributed to 55 public schools in Lamitan City. The initiative is aligned with the government’s Gulayan sa Paaralan Program, which promotes backyard and school gardening as a means to improve nutrition among learners and encourage environmental responsibility.

“This support from MAFAR Basilan will greatly benefit our schools and learners. It strengthens our efforts to integrate practical agricultural activities into education while addressing food sustainability,” the division noted.

Purple Wolves Roar to Victory at Sakayan Bandoreal 2026

The thunder of drums and the shimmer of lyres filled the Isabela City Grandstand as our very own Colony National High School Purple Wolves Drum and Lyre Corps emerged as Champion in the Sakayan Bandoreal Drum and Lyre Competition 2026 on April 27.

Held in celebration of the 25th Charter Anniversary of Isabela City and the Sakayan Festival, the provincial-wide competition gathered top drum and lyre corps across Basilan. Amid fierce competition, our very own Colony National High School Purple Wolves delivered a standout performance through their program, “Through the Years: Isabela City’s Unfolding Beauty.”

Their presentation brought the audience on a captivating journey, highlighting the city’s cultural heritage and progress through synchronized formations, powerful musicality, and dynamic choreography. Each movement and note reflected precision, discipline, and months of rigorous training, earning the admiration of both judges and spectators.

The Purple Wolves’ excellence extended beyond the championship title as they also secured **Best in Musicality and Instrumentation** and **Most Colorful and Festive Band**, showcasing their strength in both sound and visual appeal.

Other participating schools, including Basilan National High School, Basilan State College – Sta. Clara Campus, Claret School of Maluso, and Tairan National High School, also showcased remarkable talent, making the competition a vibrant display of skill and creativity.

An amount of ₱10,000.00 was generously provided by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) as immediate support to the bereaved family.

The said assistance was directly transmitted by the PSC to the parents of the late athlete through GCash, ensuring a swift and efficient delivery of aid during this difficult time. Lamitan Schools Division Honors Young Athlete Phiben Ansoc, Extends Support to Bereaved Family

In a solemn display of sympathy and unity, personnel of the Lamitan City Schools Division, led by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Tim Undain-Sanchez, visited the wake of the late Phiben Ansoc, an elementary pupil and Sepak Takraw athlete who passed away during the BARMMAA Meet 2026 held in Parang, Maguindanao.

The sudden loss of Ansoc has brought deep sorrow to the entire division, as he was not only a young and promising athlete but also a dedicated learner who represented Lamitan City with pride and determination. Despite his young age, he demonstrated remarkable discipline and passion for Sepak Takraw, earning the admiration of his coaches, teachers, and fellow athletes.

During the visit, Dr. Sanchez personally expressed his condolences to the grieving family and assured them of the division’s unwavering support. As a gesture of compassion, she formally turned over financial assistance amounting to Two Hundred Sixteen Thousand Pesos (₱216,000.00), sourced from various generous contributors, namely: ₱110,000 from the 11 Members of Parliament who each donated ₱10,000; ₱51,000 from Chief Minister Macacua; ₱5,000 from the Division of Lanao del Sur-1; and ₱50,000 combined support from Mayor Bapa Abas and the School Heads of Datu Odin Sinsuat.

The assistance aims to help the family with immediate needs and ease the burden during this time of grief. Dr. Sanchez emphasized that the Lamitan City Schools Division stands in solidarity with the family and honors the life and legacy of young Phiben.

“We mourn the loss of a young life full of promise. Phiben’s dedication and courage will always be remembered, and his story will continue to inspire our learners to strive for excellence,” Dr. Sanchez shared.
As the community continues to grieve, heartfelt prayers and tributes pour in for Phiben Ansoc, whose memory will remain etched in the hearts of many.
