A historic and momentous celebration unfolded yesterday March 31,2026 at Upper Manggas, Lantawan, Basilan as Atong-Atong NHS, Conception NHS, and Tairan NHS proudly held their 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐄𝐱𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐬.

With the inspiring theme, “𝑯𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒔𝒚𝒐𝒏 𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒌𝒂𝒌𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒂: 𝑯𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒊 𝒏𝒈 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝒏𝒂 𝑷𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒎𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒂 𝑻𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒂 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝒂𝒕 𝑴𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒔𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒓o,” the event showcased not only the achievements of our graduates but also the strength of unity among schools, communities, and leaders in shaping a brighter future.

The occasion was truly honored by the presence of our Municipal 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗢𝗺𝗮𝗲𝗿 𝗠. 𝗔𝗯𝘂𝗯𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗿, our keynote speaker 𝗣𝗟𝗧𝗖𝗢𝗟 𝗝𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗝. 𝗠𝘂𝗶𝗻, and our esteemed 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗠𝘆𝗿𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗿𝗷𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗮𝗯𝘂𝗻𝗴, 𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗘, whose words of wisdom inspired our graduates to move forward with purpose, integrity, and commitment.

March 12, 2026 || 1st Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED)
Theme: "Duck, Cover, and Hold: Gawin Dapat, Pero Hindi Sapat"

Atong-Atong National High School successfully hosted the Lantawan Municipality’s First Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 12, 2026, held at the school’s open stage.

The activity started with a short orientation and final briefing for the students, emphasizing the three important steps during an earthquake: Duck, Cover, and Hold. These are the officially recommended safety procedures to protect ourselves during an earthquake. The briefing was followed by the actual drill, signaled by the loud wail of the siren.

Four different scenarios were presented, with assigned cases and building numbers. Rescuers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), and the Philippine National Police (PNP) actively searched for victims. Meanwhile, the triage team composed of personnel from the Rural Health Unit (RHU), the school nurse, and MDRRMO were on standby and responsible for the tagging of patients.

Personnel from the RHU and MDRRMO were also assigned to manage the Treatment Area. The transport and evacuation of patients were handled by the AFP, PNP, and MDRRMO using their respective vehicles. The simulation proceeded smoothly and successfully as planned.

A short program followed the drill to evaluate the earlier simulation and discuss its relevance to real-life situations and daily preparedness.

“This activity is very important to us. We may have moved slowly earlier, but during actual calamities like earthquakes, we must respond quickly. Through this program, we learn what actions to take whenever disasters occur,” said Dr. Raisa Sahabat.

“Sa susunod na quarter, mga bata na lang ang magpe-perform ng lahat at i-check natin kung ano ang tama at ano pa ang dapat ayusin,” shared SFO3 Joel T. Corton.

“Maraming salamat sa mga mag-aaral ng AANHS—mga great actors and actresses talaga kayo. Ngayon, may natutunan na kayo sa ating drill at alam na ninyo ang dapat gawin kung may lindol. Sa next quarter, sa ibang school naman ng Lantawan natin gagawin ang pagsasanay na ito,” said Ms. Sarrama Pansulani, Research and Planning Officer of MDRRMO.

The program concluded with a commitment message from the participating agencies, followed by the distribution of Emergency Go Travel Bags & bagpacks. Then the closing message of Ms. Pansulani, Lantawan MDDRMO representative.

This activity aims to assess the reading level and comprehension skills of learners, providing teachers with valuable information to further support and improve students’ literacy development.

Through the guidance of our Phil-IRI Coordinator Sir Jaysamer B**g H. Habibon, our dedicated teachers and the cooperation of our learners, the assessment was carried out smoothly. The results of the Phil-IRI will serve as a basis in planning appropriate reading interventions and strategies to strengthen the reading abilities of our students.

AANHS remains committed to promoting literacy and ensuring that every learner continues to grow and succeed in their academic journey.

We sincerely apologize to the parents, students, and the community for the collection of graduation fees that is contrary to the existing policy of the Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE). We acknowledge that this action did not comply with the guidelines prohibiting the collection of any form of contribution or fees for graduation ceremonies.

We take full responsibility for this matter and express our deepest regret for this oversight. We remain committed to strictly adhering to and respecting all policies and regulations set by MBHTE.
