The City Government of Laoag, through the City Health Office, successfully conducted the Buntis Congress 2026 at the City Auditorium, bringing together pregnant women, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), and Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) for a meaningful day of learning and health promotion.

The congress was formally opened with a message from Hon. City Mayor James Bryan Q. Alcid, followed by informative sessions on:

The activity was further strengthened by the participation of the Philippine Dental Association โ€“ Ilocos Norte Chapter, Inc., which provided oral health check-ups and distributed dental kits to the participants.

The congress concluded with the distribution of delivery kits, reaffirming the City's commitment to promoting safe motherhood, proper nutrition, and the health and well-being of mothers and children.

The Laoag City Nutrition Committee successfully conducted the Gawad Parangal ng Nutrisyon 2026 on August 18, 2026, at the Multipurpose Hall, Laoag City, as a culminating recognition activity honoring individuals, barangays, and participants who demonstrated exemplary performance, commitment, creativity, and active involvement in nutrition- and health-related programs.

City Health Officer Dr Rodrigo L. Catcatan Jr. formally opened the activity, and City Mayor Hon. James Bryan Q. Alcid was represented by Hon. Justine Clarence Chua, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member. City officials, City Health Office representatives, members of the technical committee, and the respective boards of judges presented the awards and recognitions.

The program included the presentation of awards and recognition for the following

1. ๐–๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐‹๐จ๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐‚๐ก๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐ง๐ ๐ž ๐’๐ž๐š๐ฌ๐จ๐ง ๐Ÿ

The Weight Loss Challenge Season 2 was a four-month health and wellness initiative conducted from April to July 2026. The program promoted proper weight management, healthy lifestyle practices, regular physical activity, and improved dietary habits. Participants underwent regular weigh-ins, nutrition monitoring, and other wellness activities.

The challenge was divided into Male and Female categories. The top three winners in the Male Category were:

1st Place: Jasper Ryan P. Jose โ€“ 25.90% weight loss percentage
2nd Place: Mark Kennedy J. Mateo โ€“ 23.15% weight loss percentage
3rd Place: Cyrus Jay F. Utleg โ€“ 17.80% weight loss percentage

For the Female Category:

1st Place: Czarmaine T. Agcaoili โ€“ 13.99% weight loss percentage
2nd Place: Remedios T. Acosta โ€“ 12.47% weight loss percentage
3rd Place: Robelyn Angelica Manglal-lan โ€“ 10.82% weight loss percentage

Consolation and participation awards were likewise presented to the other participants who successfully completed the challenge.

The Digital Poster Making Contest was conducted as part of the 2026 Nutrition Month Celebration. It encouraged creativity and promoted awareness of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices through digital artwork based on the theme โ€œNutrisyon at Kalikasan Ating Pangalagaan.โ€

The winners were:

1st Place: Duff Mc Kagann Castillo โ€“ Bridge of Nature's Bounty โ€“ 91.3
2nd Place: David Pascua โ€“ Sa Kalikasan Magmumula Ang Masustansyang Pamumuhay โ€“ 88.0
3rd Place: King Zyrus Domingo โ€“ Bawat masustansyang pagkain, binhi ng luntiang kinabukasan โ€“ 85.8

Other finalists were likewise recognized for their participation and creative contributions.

The Nutri Jingle Video Contest encouraged schools in Laoag City to showcase creativity, talent, and teamwork while promoting proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices. Participating schools developed jingle videos centered on the Nutrition Month theme โ€œNutrisyon at Kalikasan Ating Pangalagaan.โ€

The recognized schools were:

1st Place: Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades โ€“ Junior High School โ€“ Luntiang Kinabukasan
2nd Place and Best Nutri Jingle Music Award: Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Trades โ€“ Senior High School โ€“ Ugat

The Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars recognition formed part of the city-wide implementation of MELLPI. The evaluation considered the BNSs' coordination and advocacy efforts, program implementation, monitoring and evaluation, documentation and reporting, and contribution to improving the nutritional status of children and reducing malnutrition in their respective barangays.

The top three awardees were:

1st Place โ€“ Barangay 15 San Guillermo: Manuel, Maribeth Matarosa โ€“ 93.42%
2nd Place โ€“ Barangay 46 Nalbo: Corpuz, Jacquelyn Corpuz โ€“ 82.82%
3rd Place โ€“ Barangay 42 Apaya: Acosta, Remedios Tupinio โ€“ 82.42%

2. Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committee

The Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committee recognition was likewise based on the MELLPI conducted at the barangay level. The evaluation focused on the BNCs' effectiveness in coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating nutrition programs and interventions, as well as their contribution to improving the nutritional status of their constituents.
