𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐊 𝐋𝐀𝐎𝐀𝐍𝐆𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

As part of the celebration of the 𝟮𝟱𝟴𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝗼𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆, the Municipality of Laoang will host the PITIK LAOANGANON 2026: On-the-Spot Photography Contest on September 25, 2026.

The contest is open to photographers and visual storytellers from all 24 municipalities of Northern Samar, bringing together creative perspectives to capture meaningful stories from the Municipality of Laoang.

Anchored on the theme “𝗠𝗴𝗮 𝗜𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝗮 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗺 𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗻 𝗡𝗴𝗮 𝗠𝗴𝗮 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱 (𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀),” the contest aims to showcase the people, culture, landscapes, and everyday moments that reflect the resilience, beauty, and potential of Laoang.

Participants will showcase their creativity through three categories: Black & White, People, and Nature, offering different perspectives on the stories and experiences found within the community.

PITIK LAOANGANON 2026 seeks to build a visual narrative of hope, identity, and possibility that makes Laoang uniquely beautiful.

𝟓𝟐𝟕 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 ₱𝟑,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦

A total of 527 beneficiaries in Laoang are currently receiving food commodities worth ₱3,000 each under the Walang Gutom Program during the distribution being held today, August 27, 2026, at the Laoang Covered Court.

The distribution is being facilitated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in partnership with the Local Government Unit of Laoang, through the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).

The Walang Gutom Program is a flagship initiative of the DSWD that seeks to address hunger and strengthen food security among vulnerable families identified as poor through the 2024 Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS).

Through the continued coordination of the DSWD and LGU Laoang, assistance is being brought directly to qualified beneficiaries, helping ensure that support reaches families who need it most.

Today’s ongoing distribution reflects the strong partnership between the national and local governments in advancing social protection and food security. Through continued collaboration, DSWD and LGU Laoang remain committed to providing responsive assistance and helping vulnerable families meet their basic food needs.

The Local Government Unit of Laoang convened the Local School Board (LSB) Meeting today, August 26, 2026, at the Annex Building Conference Room, bringing together key education stakeholders in the municipality.

The meeting was presided over by Mayor Charlene Ongchuan and attended by school heads from the different districts, as well as representatives from the Municipal Federation of Parents-Teachers Associations, non-academic personnel of public schools, and teachers’ organizations, who form part of the Local School Board.

Among the key matters discussed were updates on the Special Education Fund (SEF) and proposed allocations related to RDRRMC VIII Resolution No. 06-005, Series of 2026, as well as the results of the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) for School Year 2024–2025. The body also received updates on the upcoming activities for the municipality’s Founding Anniversary, along with other important concerns requiring coordination among the School Board members.

The meeting served as a venue for dialogue, coordination, and collaborative planning among the local government and education stakeholders. Through these discussions, the Local School Board continues to strengthen its efforts to address the needs of schools and learners while supporting initiatives that contribute to a responsive and quality education system in Laoang.

The LGU Laoang, under the leadership of Mayor Charlene Ongchuan, remains committed to working closely with the education sector and its partners in advancing programs and initiatives that uphold the welfare of learners, support educators, and contribute to the municipality’s continuing development.

In a meaningful celebration of love and commitment, the Revitalized Pulis sa Barangay (R-PSB), in partnership with the Local Civil Registrar Office and the Barangay Officials of La Perla, successfully facilitated a heartfelt Kasalang Barangay on August 19, 2026.

The ceremony was officiated by Municipal Mayor Charlene L. Ongchuan, who led the couple in exchanging their vows and formally beginning their journey as husband and wife.

More than just a ceremony, the occasion served as a testimony to the importance of love, commitment, and the community’s role in supporting families. It also reflected the collaborative efforts of the local government, and barangay officials in bringing essential services closer to residents and helping couples fulfill an important milestone in their lives.

Through initiatives such as this, the LGU Laoang continues to promote accessible government services while strengthening the bonds between families and communities.

Barangay Baybay has been officially declared a Drug-Cleared Barangay during the 46th Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) Meeting held on August 17, 2026, at Sanghaya Hall, PDEA Regional Office.

The meeting was attended virtually by representatives from the LGU Laoang, including Mr. Niel Delabajan, the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC), together with barangay officials of Barangay Baybay, and personnel of the Laoang Municipal Police Station.

The declaration marks an important milestone in the municipality’s continuing efforts to strengthen its campaign against illegal drugs and promote safer, more peaceful, and drug-free communities. It also reflects the collaborative efforts of barangay officials, law enforcement personnel, local government, and national agencies in implementing the Barangay Drug Clearing Program.

Under the leadership of Mayor Charlene L. Ongchuan, LGU Laoang remains committed to strengthening partnerships with national and local government agencies to implement programs that ensures safety and security of Laoanganons. Through sustained coordination, community participation, prevention initiatives, and responsive local governance, the municipality continues to work toward creating drug-free communities.
