On May 26, 2026, the Local Government Unit of Laoang conducted public consultations for two major infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening climate resilience and improving connectivity in the municipality.
In the morning, the Ecosystem Resilience and Climate Adaptation Cluster, together with representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and affected landowners, held a consultation regarding the proposed poblacion creek rehabilitation project. The discussion focused on the final alignment of the project and the identification of properties that may be affected. While the original plan required a three-meter easement from the natural creek, concerns were raised regarding the number of affected households and properties. Through open dialogue and collaboration, a compromise was reached that balanced environmental objectives with the welfare of residents. Most landowners expressed their support for the agreed adjustments, resulting in a productive and positive discussion.
Later in the afternoon, another public consultation was conducted for the road right-of-way requirements of the Samar Pacific Coastal Road II Project, particularly for the proposed TalisayโLaoang Bridge. The consultation brought together the Ecosystem Resilience and Climate Adaptation Cluster and affected landowners to discuss project details and potential impacts. A follow-up consultation will be conducted to finalize discussions and agreements with affected parties.
These consultations highlight the commitment of the LGU Laoang, under the leadership of Mayor Charlene L. Ongchuan, to ensure that development projects are carried out through transparency, community participation, and inclusive decision-making while balancing progress with the welfare of affected residents.
