OUR HUMBLE BEGINNING AND THE REASON OF OUR EXISTENCE

The 20th Infantry (We Lead) Battalion traces its roots with the activation of 20th Battalion Combat Team (20BCT) on 06 September 1950. The unit underwent rigorous training in preparation for deployment abroad as the countryโ€™s contribution to the United Nations. The 20BCT was one of the Army units that form part of the Philippine Expeditionary

Forces to Korea (PEFTOK) and participated in numerous battles. Most notable of which were the Battles of Alligator Jaw Ridge (West of Chorwon) and the Battle of Jamestown Line. Although some of its personnel were wounded and eight were killed in action, the unit successfully won its campaigns. After a year of stint in Korea, 20BCT returned to the Philippines on 08 August 1952 and established its base in Plaridel, Bulacan. The Battalion was reactivated in September 1958 and was subsequently assigned with the 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division at Fort Magsaysay, Palayan City. Thereafter, the unit underwent organizational changes from Mechanized to Light Infantry, deployed to different parts of the country, and participated in various internal stability campaign. Currently, the unit is organic to 8th Infantry (Stormtroopers) Division, Philippine Army and placed under the operational control of 803rd Infantry (Peacemaker) Brigade. Since its activation in 1950, the 20th Infantry (We Lead) Battalion, Philippine Army has been resolute and faithful to its duties as bastion of democracy, guardians of peace, and partner in socio-economic and sustainable development efforts of the government. It has produced distinguished military officers and national leaders which include BGEN TEODULFO S. BAUTISTA who was murdered while on peace mission in Brgy Danag, Patikul, Sulu; AMBASSADOR MANUEL T. YAN; and PRESIDENT FIDEL V.

Five (5) Communist New Peopleโ€™s Army (NPA) Terrorists (C**s) died following a series of armed encounters that transpired between the โ€œMolave Warriorsโ€ of the 15th Infantry Battalion, under 302nd Infantry โ€œAchieverโ€ Brigade, and the remnants of the South-West Front, Komiteng-Rehiyon Negros (SWF, KR-N), in the hinterlands of Brgy. Abaca and Brgy. Poblacion, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

As the troops overran the encounter site, they recovered several high-powered fi****ms, including M60 machine gun, M16 rifles, M14 rifle, M203 gr***de launcher, hand gr***de, and other war materiel.

Residents in Cauayan have increasingly cooperated with authorities by providing information on the presence and movement of armed communist remnants hiding in remote areas.

โ€œThe continued collapse of communist terrorist formations in Negros reflects the growing rejection of violent armed struggle by communities once exploited through intimidation, extortion, deception, and fear.โ€ Brigadier General Jumawan, Commander, 302nd Brigade said. Moreover, he said that this encounter further exposes the deteriorating condition of the dismantled SWF whose remaining members continue to suffer heavy losses, dwindling manpower, and declining support from local residents.

Meanwhile, the Brigade Commander emphasized that military operations remain focused on protecting civilians and preventing the remnants of the communist terrorist movement from re-establishing influence in vulnerable communities. On the other hand, he reiterated the governmentโ€™s call for remaining rebels to surrender peacefully and avail themselves of reintegration programs before more lives are lost in a collapsing insurgency already rejected by the people. โ€œItโ€™s unfortunate that many lives were lost, but the troops had to defend the community who are victims of the Communist Terrorist Groupโ€™s (CTGโ€™s) senseless killings by โ€œspy-taggingโ€ innocent civilians.โ€
