PNP STEPS UP RESPONSE AS MAYON ACTIVITY CONTINUES
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified its operations in Albay following the recent pyroclastic density current or “uson” ,which means 'dangerous' in Bicolano, from Mayon Volcano at around 5:38 PM, prioritizing the safety and security of affected communities.
Police Regional Office 5 (PRO 5) immediately deployed personnel to manage traffic along key roads, ensuring unhampered movement for emergency response. Police visibility and checkpoints were also strengthened in critical areas to prevent entry into identified danger zones and maintain public order.
On the ground, PNP personnel are assisting in the distribution of face masks and providing timely reminders on health precautions, particularly against ashfall and related hazards. Close coordination continues with local government units, the Office of Civil Defense, and disaster response offices to support evacuation, rescue, and relief efforts.
The PNP is also assisting local officials in monitoring affected areas and managing evacuation centers, ensuring the safety and orderly stay of evacuees. The activation of the KASUROG Disaster Emergency Assistance Response (D.E.A.R.) Team further strengthens rapid response and humanitarian assistance operations in the province.
PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., assured the public of the organization’s full commitment to safeguarding communities affected by the volcanic activity.
“Patuloy ang ating pagbabantay at pagtulong sa ating mga kababayan. Ang kaligtasan ng bawat isa ang ating pangunahing layunin. Hinihikayat namin ang publiko na sumunod sa abiso ng mga awtoridad at umiwas sa mga delikadong lugar,” PGen Nartatez said.
He added that the PNP will sustain its presence in key areas, including Camalig, Guinobatan, and Ligao City, as part of ongoing efforts to secure communities and support government response operations.
The PNP reminds the public to stay indoors during ashfall, wear protective masks, and remain updated through official advisories. Public cooperation and vigilance remain essential to ensure everyone’s safety.
As the situation develops, the PNP reaffirms its commitment to responsive and compassionate service in line with the vision of a Bagong PNP para sa Bagong Pilipinas: Serbisyong Mabilis, Tapat at Nararamdaman.
