๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ณ๏ธโ๐
๐๐ป ๐ญ๐ต๐ต๐ฐ, a prominent movement led by a handful of advocates in Manila made headlines- what was later dubbed as the ๐ณ๐ถ๐ฟ๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต, not only in the Philippines, but in Asia. Back then, they demanded an end to discrimination against LGBTQ+ people and for the promotion of the sectorโs rights, and also opposed the burdensome Value Added Tax (VAT), rising oil and commodity prices. Through this initiative, the call for equality, dignity, and human rights for LGBTQIA+ communities were amplified. More than three decades later, these calls remain relevant.
Here at Bicol University, we loudly reaffirm our ๐ฐ๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ถ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ผ ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ ๐๐ฎ๐ณ๐ฒ, ๐ถ๐ป๐ฐ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ, ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฝ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ณ๐ผ๐ฟ ๐ฎ๐น๐น through our GAD policies and initiatives which promote respect, equity and belonging.
As we celebrate this yearโs ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ ๐ผ๐ป๐๐ต, we look back and honor those who came before us, recognize the work that remains, and encourage everyone to become allies in building a more inclusive future.
