Bicol University was visited by 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐦 and 𝐑𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐍𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐫, Consultants from Deloitte, Australia through the 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐘𝐌𝐂𝐀 to monitor the pilot implementation of the 12 𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂𝒓𝒅𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒔 on 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 20, 2026. In partnership with YMCA – Albay, BU is extending a technical assistance to develop an assessment tool to ensure compliance with the global meaningful work standards aligned with the Vision 2030 of YMCA. The extension project involving selected faculty members intends to support strategic priorities by strengthening organizational capacity and consistency, ensuring that stakeholders take part in the process, and connecting local practices with the given standards.

A courtesy visit with 𝐃𝐫. 𝐌𝐚. 𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐭𝐚 𝐁. 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬, Vice President for Academic Affairs and the formal meeting between the Consultants and the Component Leaders held at the 𝐁𝐔 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 provided access to data and insights to explore opportunities for offering relevant academic programs such as micro-credentials, undertake a research and get involved in a world survey to determine the level of compliance among organizations and companies, with Bicol University representing higher education institutions as the pilot implementer in the Country.

BU International Relations Office Welcomes Korean Language Experts for Future Collaboration

The Bicol University International Relations Office (BU IRO), in coordination with the Bicol University Language Center (BULC), welcomed Korean language and culture experts Ms. Sookchun Jung, former Head of the King Sejong Institute (KSI)–Dubai and an expert in Korean language and culture education, and Ms. Haeri Joung, her Administrative Assistant and Social Media Manager, to explore opportunities for future partnerships and meaningful international collaboration.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Jocelyn I. Bartolata, Director of BULC; Prof. Lynn C. Oliquino and Prof. Geraldine F. Ajero, Technical Staff of BULC; Ms. Michelle B. Andes, representing the Vice President for Administration and Finance (VPAF); Dr. Sharlene A. Lucillo, Dean of the College of Dental Medicine, representing the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA); and Prof. Evangeline D. Honrado, Director of BU - IRO.

Initiated by Dr. Bartolata, the meeting reflects BULC’s commitment to expanding opportunities for Korean language education and cultural exchange. It also aligns with the BU International Relations Office’s mandate to strengthen internationalization, establish global linkages, and foster mutually beneficial partnerships with international institutions and stakeholders.

Bicol University (BU) participated in the 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 (𝐇𝐄𝐏𝐂𝐎𝐍) 2026, held on October 1–2, 2026, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Cebu City. The University was represented by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐀. 𝐋𝐨ñ𝐨𝐬𝐚, Coordinator for International Communications and Marketing of the BU International Relations Office (IRO).

Organized by the 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃), HEPCON 2026 brought together 159 Philippine higher education institutions and international partners from 13 countries to explore collaboration in academic mobility, research, emerging technologies, and future-ready education.

BU’s participation reflects the University’s continuing commitment to internationalization through diplomatic engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships with foreign institutions. The conference provided a valuable platform to showcase Bicol University to the broader higher education community, expanding its visibility and recognition not only within the Philippines but also among potential international partners across ASEAN, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

Through these engagements, BU continues to build bridges across borders, foster meaningful institutional relationships, and pursue collaborative initiatives that create opportunities for students, faculty, and researchers while advancing the University’s global presence.

Bicol University has been selected to host the 2027 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 (𝐆𝐇𝐀), marking a historic milestone as the first time that both the University and the Bicol Region will serve as 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 to this international gathering.

The conference is expected to bring together approximately 150 to 200 scholars, clinicians, public health leaders, and representatives of partner institutions from around the world in Legazpi City, Albay.

The hosting rights were determined through an open and competitive selection process, with 10 GHA partner institutions from different countries submitting proposals to host the 2027 conference. The proposals were evaluated based on their comprehensiveness and readiness to host the international gathering, with Bicol University, Philippines, and the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar, India emerging as the two finalists.

The final pitches were presented during the 5𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐍𝐮𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, held from September 28 to 30, 2026, at the Heritage Hotel and Conference Center in Southbury, Connecticut, USA.

Representing Bicol University, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐄𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃. 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐨, Director of the BU International Relations Office (IRO), presented the University’s proposal alongside university officials and administrators. The presentation highlighted BU’s readiness to host the global gathering through its facilities, institutional partnerships, and people, while also showcasing the Bicol Region as a welcoming destination for global scholars and professionals.

With the hosting rights secured, Bicol University will now work closely with the Global Health Academy and its partner institutions as preparations begin for the 2027 conference.

The upcoming gathering is expected to further strengthen BU’s global partnerships and provide opportunities for meaningful knowledge exchange, research collaboration, and international engagement in global health, bringing the world to Bicol and showcasing the region on the global stage. 🌏
