Psilocybin is a hallucinogenic chemical found in certain mushrooms that are also known as magic mushrooms. When ingested, the chemical turns into psilocin which can produce psychedelic effects similar to the hallucinogenic drug named lysergic acid diethylamide or L*D which means they can affect all the senses, altering a person's thinking, sense of time and emotions.
Psilocybin is on the list of substances under the Schedule 1 of the 1971 United Nations Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The Dangerous Drugs Board also included Psilocybin in the updated list of Scheduled Controlled Substances as of 23 August 2023.
The importation, sale, trading, administration, dispensation, delivery, distribution and transportation, possession, and use of dangerous drugs are punishable under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
