๐พ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ก๐ก๐, ๐๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ค๐๐ค๐ฃ โ Facing illness and termination from work, a finance company branch manager secured P342,438.52 in separation pay upon the mediation-conciliation mechanism of the Single Entry Approach (SEnA) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Bicol, through its Sorsogon Provincial Office, on Thursday.
The employee had been terminated after being diagnosed with an illness deemed not curable within six months. Under Article 299 of the Labor Code, termination on this ground is allowed as an authorized cause, provided that certification from a competent public health authority is obtained and the corresponding separation pay is duly released by the employer.
Upon the complaint lodged through the SEnA, the said provincial office promptly conducted conciliation-mediation conferences. Despite geographical distance, the process was efficiently carried out through virtual conferencing, with the employer represented by its Employee Relations Manager and HR Business Partner.
DOLE Bicol Regional Director Imelda F. Gatinao said that as part of enforcing labor standards, workers in vulnerable situations must be treated with dignity and their concerns with utmost urgency.

With the facilitation of the SENA Desk Officer (SEADO), both parties engaged in constructive dialogue, clarified the legal basis of the claim, and worked toward a fair and humane resolution. The cooperation of the companyโs management proved instrumental in reaching an amicable settlement.
To formalize the agreement and ensure finality, both parties executed a Quitclaim and Release, evidencing that the employee had received his full entitlement and that the matter had been settled voluntarily.
The employee expressed his gratitude for a timely resolution of his case, especially that the settlement comes at a crucial time as he continues his recovery.
