24 Philippine Navy vessels, led by Presidential Yacht BRP Ang Pangulo (ACS25), other government agencies, Philippine-flagged vessels, several international-flagged vessels, and other maritime stakeholders, simultaneously sounded horns for one minute to express the Philippines’ identity as a maritime and archipelagic nation and highlight the importance of its seas and maritime resources.

MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday warned that foreign malign influence (FMI) operations in the Philippines are increasingly moving to “street level” as foreign actors now use local issues and the Filipino language in their propaganda.
According to AFP spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Retired Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad (Reserve), there has been a shift in the approach of foreign malign influence operations since the first quarter of 2026.

HUMANITARIAN SERVICE IN ACTION | PH Navy Sustains HADR Efforts Amid Habagat, Strengthens Disaster Response Partnerships
The Philippine Navy, through its various units, sustained its humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR) efforts amid the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, providing assistance to affected communities while strengthening coordination with local government units (LGUs), disaster response agencies, and civilian partners.
The Navy deployed several HADR efforts such as libreng sakay initiative, house-to-house rescue operations, deployment of disaster response teams, and relief operations, among other efforts.
The Philippine Navy remains ready to provide immediate assistance to communities affected by natural hazards. These initiatives likewise underscore the importance of strong coordination among the military, government agencies, LGUs, and civilian organizations in ensuring a swift and coordinated response during disasters and emergencies.

NAVFORSOL CONDUCTS SEPAK TAKRAW TOURNAMENT AS PART OF IT’S 49th ANNIVERSARY PRE-ANNIVERSARY ACTIVITIES

The Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL), in partnership with the Albay Sepak Takraw Association (ASTA), successfully conducted a Sepak Takraw Tournament as part of its pre-anniversary activities in celebration of the 49th Anniversary of the Naval Forces Southern Luzon.

The tournament brought together athletes from different schools, clubs, and Sepak Takraw enthusiasts across the Province of Albay, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship, discipline, and a strong sense of community.

Sepak takraw, as an acrobatic sport that showcases agility, discipline, teamwork, and cultural identity, can serve as an effective platform for encouraging organizational membership and strengthening engagement among participating communities. Its regional popularity, particularly in Southeast Asia, provides opportunities to foster camaraderie, mutual understanding, and people-to-people connections that can support broader cooperation. In this regard, promoting sepak takraw activities can help advance acrobatic centrality, particularly by building stronger regional networks and partnerships, while encouraging members and stakeholders to contribute to initiatives that promote regional security, cooperation, and stability.

Prior to the start of the tournament, NAVFORSOL personnel conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign through the “MULAT” Communication Plan, providing participants with awareness on the importance of protecting our national interests, particularly in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), and promoting a rules-based international order.

Beyond being a traditional Filipino sport that promotes teamwork, discipline, and agility, Sepak Takraw was used as a meaningful platform to convey our message on the West Philippine Sea.
Instead of using our hands to project the use of force, we use the different parts of the body to represent our approach. The head symbolizes our commitment to uphold international law and promote a rules-based international order. The chest emphasizes that we are a loving and peaceful nation committed to regional peace and stability, while the shoulder represents our pursuit of support and cooperation from like-minded countries, partners, and allies in advancing our shared interests and strengthening regional security.

Through this initiative, NAVFORSOL highlights that sports can serve not only as a venue for competition, but also as a platform for community engagement, public awareness, and the promotion of national interests.

The activity further strengthens the partnership between the Philippine Navy and the local community, while celebrating the spirit of unity and sportsmanship as NAVFORSOL moves toward its 49th Anniversary. See less

WPS IS OURS 🌊🇵🇭 | PH Navy Highlights Maritime Awareness, Youth Role in Safeguarding West Philippine Sea
The Philippine Navy emphasized the importance of maritime domain awareness, environmental stewardship, and youth participation in safeguarding the West Philippine Sea during the “Safeguarding Our Seas: Multi-sector Dialogue on Stewardship and National Duty” held on August 28, 2026, at the Gabaldon Room, Club Filipino in Greenhills, San Juan City.
Rear Admiral Roy Vincent T Trinidad PN (Ret)(Res), AFP Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, served as a discourse panelist during the high-level strategic forum, which brought together government officials, armed forces representatives, youth leaders, civil society advocates, and maritime experts to discuss national security, territorial defense, and environmental stewardship.
During the discourse, Rear Admiral Trinidad PN(Ret)(Res) highlighted the importance of maritime domain awareness (MDA) in understanding and protecting the country’s maritime spaces. He also discussed the environmental pressures facing the West Philippine Sea, emphasizing that efforts to safeguard the country’s maritime domain must also consider the protection and sustainability of its marine environment.
Rear Admiral Trinidad PN(Ret)(Res) further underscored that the measures being undertaken today are ultimately intended to secure the country’s maritime future for generations to come. He also highlighted the need to address misinformation and disinformation, particularly in the maritime domain, through greater public awareness, responsible information sharing, and informed engagement.
He likewise emphasized the power and potential of the youth in advancing maritime awareness and contributing to efforts to protect the country’s maritime interests. Their participation, he noted, is vital in ensuring that the responsibility of safeguarding the seas continues beyond the present generation.
National Security Adviser Eduardo Oban Jr. and Secretary of National Defense Gilbert Teodoro Jr. were among the speakers during the dialogue, which provided a platform for stakeholders from various sectors to exchange perspectives and strengthen a whole-of-nation approach to safeguarding the West Philippine Sea.
The Philippine Navy remains committed to strengthening maritime awareness, protecting the country’s maritime interests, and fostering cooperation among government, the military, civil society, the youth, and other maritime stakeholders toward a secure and sustainable maritime domain.

"NAVFORSOL SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS 6TH MARITIME SECURITY FORUM
2026"

LEGAZPI CITY, ALBAY - Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NFSL) successfully conducted the 6th Maritime Security Forum 2026 on 25 August 2026 at the Fleet-Marine Quarterdeck, Naval Station Julhasan Arasain, Rawis, Legazpi City, with the theme, "A Whole-of-Government, Whole-of-Nation Approach: Credible Maritime Security as a Catalyst for a Progressive Southern Luzon Blue Economy."

The forum was led by Commodore Estelito B. Lagadia Jr., PN, Commander, Naval Forces Southern Luzon, and brought together key stakeholders from government agencies, NAVFORSOL personnel, and Civilian Human Resource to discuss matters concerning maritime security, economic development, digital connectivity, external security operations, and the strategic importance of Southern Luzon maritime waters.

The forum featured a series of presentations addressing key issues relevant to the maritime domain. Ms. Nancy K. Fernandez, OIC-Supervising Economic Development Specialist, Policy Formulation and Planning Division, DEPDev 5, discussed "Southern Luzon Blue Economy: An Integral Part in National Economic Development - Its State Amidst Internal and External Threats." This was followed by Atty. Marco Angelo Felix L. Lopez, Director, Ocean Governance, Shipping and Seafaring Division, Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office, Department of Foreign Affairs, who presented "Navigating Jurisdictional Boundaries:
Distinguishing Maritime Zones and Archipelagic Sea Lanes, and Its Implications in Foreign Relations."

Meanwhile, Engr. Ralph B. Dela Torre, Engineer III, DICT 5, tackled "The Role of Digital Connectivity in Modern Maritime Security," highlighting the importance of digital connectivity and technology in strengthening maritime security. Commodore Charles Merric A. Villanueva, PN, Assistant Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3, discussed "External Security Operations: An Expedient Campaign Focus," emphasizing the evolving security environment and the importance of operational readiness in addressing emerging maritime security challenges.

The lecture series concluded with "The Importance of Southern Luzon Maritime Waters in Indo-Pacific Multilayer Defense Strategies," presented by Colonel Danilo T. Facundo, PN(M)(MNSA), Director, Office of Strategic Studies and Strategy Management, Philippine Navy, which highlighted the strategic significance of Southern Luzon maritime waters within the broader regional security environment.

An Open Forum followed the presentations, providing participants an opportunity to exchange insights, raise relevant concerns, and strengthen their shared understanding of maritime security and the sustainable development of Southern Luzon's maritime domain.
The successful conduct of the 6th Maritime Security Forum underscores NAVFORSOL's commitment to promoting a Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Nation approach in advancing credible maritime security, strengthening interagency cooperation, and contributing to a safe, secure, and progressive Southern Luzon Blue Economy.
