✨ 100 SENIOR CITIZENS | 9 LGU QUIZ BEE TEAMS | 2 DAYS OF LEARNING, EMPOWERMENT, AND CONSUMER ADVOCACY! ✨
Knowledge knows no age, and empowered consumers build stronger, safer, and more resilient communities. 💪📚
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Albay Provincial Office successfully conducted the Consumer Talks Year 3 cm Senior Citizen Quiz Bee Challenge 2026 on October 5–6, 2026, at LCC Event Center I, LCC Malls, Legazpi City, Albay, bringing together 100 senior citizens from various local government units across the province for two meaningful days of learning, engagement, and consumer empowerment.
Held in celebration of 2026 Consumer Welfare Month, with the national theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers,” the activity carried the special advocacy theme “May K (Karapatan at Kaalaman) si Lolo at Lola,” highlighting the importance of equipping our beloved senior citizens with the knowledge, confidence, and awareness needed to exercise their consumer rights and responsibilities. The activity likewise support the Elderly Filipino Week celebration.
💙 DAY 1: EMPOWERING SENIOR CITIZENS THROUGH CONSUMER EDUCATION
The first day featured informative and engaging discussions from valued ConsumerNet partner government agencies, which shared their respective programs, services, and consumer complaints and redress mechanisms.
Resource speakers from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Justice (DOJ), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided valuable insights on cybersecurity, online scams, financial consumer protection, investment-related concerns, legal remedies, telecommunications services, senior citizen welfare, and product safety.
Through these discussions, participants gained practical knowledge on identifying fraudulent schemes, protecting their hard-earned money, making informed purchasing decisions, and knowing where to seek assistance when their consumer rights are violated.
In today's rapidly evolving marketplace, consumer awareness is not merely important—it is essential. 🛡️
💛 DAY 2: CONTINUING THE LEARNING AND CELEBRATING THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR SENIOR CITIZENS
The second day continued with equally informative sessions from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Health (DOH), Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), and Land Transportation Office (LTO).
These discussions further strengthened participants' understanding of government programs, consumer protection measures, product safety standards, and the proper channels for raising concerns and seeking redress.
The activity also provided an opportunity for senior citizens to engage directly with government representatives, ask questions, clarify concerns, and gain a deeper appreciation of the services available to them.
