The Municipal Nutrition Office staff conducted an orientation for the Barangay Nutrition Committee of Capihan today on the formulation of the Barangay Nutrition Action Plan 2026 anchored on the *Four Pillars of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028*.
BNS Jolina Rose Ronquillo, together with RHM, Nurse ,BHW's, Kagawad on Health, Barangay Council, SK Chairperson, and other BNC members, participated in the technical assistance activity. The orientation focused on aligning barangay nutrition interventions with national strategies to address stunting, wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies.
MNO staff Jane Barbadillo discussed the 4 Pillars and how each applies to barangay-level planning:
1. Pillar 1: Healthier Diets β Promoting food security through Gulayan sa Barangay and nutrition-sensitive agriculture
2. Pillar 2: Better Nutrition Practices β Strengthening IYCF, WASH, and nutrition education for families
3. Pillar 3: Improved Access to Nutrition Services β Proper implementation of PIMAM for SAM/MAM management
4. Pillar 4: Enabling Environment β Securing budget, policies, and functional BNC for sustained nutrition programs
The group reviewed Capihanβs 2026 OPT+ results and identified priority problems to be addressed in the 2027 BNAP. A follow-up workshop was scheduled for the actual crafting of the plan with budget details.
βThe 4 Pillars give us a clear guide. Now we know nutrition is not just the BNSβs job. Itβs everybodyβs responsibility,β said one BNC member.
The MNO will continue to provide technical assistance to ensure Capihanβs BNAP is evidence-based and compliant with MELLPI-PRO indicators.
