5ID GALING | 44 Years of Service, One Legacy of Excellence

In celebration of the 44th Founding Anniversary of the 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army, a momentous awarding ceremony was held to recognize the invaluable contributions of both military personnel and civilian partners. The event was graced by LTGEN ROY M GALIDO, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, who personally presented the prestigious Stakeholders Award and Startroopers Award to the honorees.

The Stakeholders Award was conferred upon select partners from various sectors who have consistently demonstrated their support for the Division’s mission through collaborative efforts in peacebuilding, development initiatives, and public service. Their unwavering commitment continues to play a vital role in successfully implementing programs aligned with the government's campaign to end local armed conflict.

Meanwhile, the Startroopers Award was presented to outstanding officers, enlisted personnel, reservists, and civilian human resources of the 5th Infantry Division who have exemplified excellence, professionalism, and dedication to duty. These awardees embody the Division’s motto: “Only Our Best is Good Enough”, inspiring all troopers in the pursuit of genuine service to the Filipino people.

Five BIFF Members Surrender, Turn Over High-Powered Fi****ms in Push for Peace in BARMM

Five members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) voluntarily surrendered to the 48th Infantry (Guardians) Battalion under Lt. Col. Kenny Rae C. Tizon in a simple "Kanduli" ceremony, a Maguindanaon expression of gratitude to the Almighty. The surrenderees—Muhammidin Panegas (), Abdula Muhamad (), Datu Manot Abubakar Panegas (), Abdullah Yusop (), and Datu Ali Panegas ()—turned over high-powered fi****ms, including an M14 rifle, M16 rifle, carbine, Cal .50, and Cal .30 rifles.

The military will present them and the weapons to Brig. Gen. Edgar L. Catu, commander of the 601st Brigade, in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao del Sur. Lt. Col. Tizon attributed their surrender to the intensified military campaign and collaborative efforts of the local government and community. He emphasized the effectiveness of the whole-of-nation approach in fostering peace and development.

In support of the government’s disarmament efforts, Datu Salibo mayoral candidate Datu Jong Ampatuan and his running mate, Vice Mayor Omar Ali, also surrendered an 81mm mortar and a 5.56 rifle.

One of the former rebels, a sub-leader, said they grew tired of the conflict and now choose peace and family over violence. Brig. Gen. Catu thanked local officials and citizens for their role in promoting peace, stressing that the achievement belongs not just to the military but to the entire Bangsamoro community.

The 601st Brigade continues to urge remaining BIFF members to surrender and help build lasting peace in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

In celebration of its 44th Founding Anniversary, the 5th Infantry “Star” Division, Philippine Army officially launched the Ground for Agricultural Management and Biodiversity Integrated Technology Project at the IP Village in Camp Melchor F. Dela Cruz, Gamu, Isabela.

The event was led by Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido, Commanding General of the Philippine Army, along with MGen Gulliver L Señires, Commander 5ID, key officials, key stakeholders, and media partners. The Project features areas for livestock, aquaponics, rice fields, gardens, and fishponds, and will serve as a food production hub and livelihood training center for the community.

This major initiative underscores the Division’s commitment to food security and sustainable livelihood. This Project features integrated areas for livestock, aquaponics, rice farming, vegetable gardening, and fishponds. It aims to serve as both a food production and a livelihood training for retirees’ and Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA).

The launch was witnessed by key military officials and partner stakeholders who expressed support for the Division’s push for long-term development and resilience.

This project reflects 5ID’s mission to contribute not only to national security but also to the well-being and progress of the communities it serves—anchored on the values of Malasakit, Disiplina, at Galing.

4ID Honors Wounded Heroes After Successful Operation Against NPA in Bukidnon

The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division of the Philippine Army honors the bravery of four soldiers from the 28th Infantry Battalion who were wounded during an operation against NPA remnants on May 23, 2025, in Brgy Hagpa, Impasug-ong, Bukidnon. Acting swiftly on tips from local residents about ongoing extortion, the soldiers disrupted the NPA’s activities, forcing the terrorists to flee.

Major General Michele B. Anayron Jr., 4ID Commander, praised the soldiers for their courage, resilience, and patriotism. He emphasized the need to address the lingering threat posed by the NPA, which continues to disrupt peace and endanger communities.

Tactical Operations Group 10 and medical teams provided immediate battlefield care and airlifted the wounded soldiers via Black Hawk helicopters. MGen Anayron assured the public that the soldiers are receiving the best medical attention and urged everyone to keep them in their thoughts and prayers. Pursuit operations continue to eliminate the remaining threat.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚| Nine newly assigned officers and enlisted personnel were officially welcomed into the Reserve Command, Philippine Army (RESCOM, PA) as they proudly donned the RESCOM patches during the Monday Flag Raising Ceremony held on May 19, 2025, at Camp Riego de Dios, Tanza, Cavite. This ceremonial donning marks their formal integration into the Command. Among the officers are: Col. Hilarion G. Palma, GSC (Inf) PA ; Col. Mario Lito I. Retirva, GSC (Inf) PA; Col. Napoleon F. The 61st Infantry Battalion Seizes Terrorist Arms Cache in Antique, Deals Major Blow to CPP-NPA-NDF

Troops from the 61st Infantry (Hunter) Battalion launched a successful combat operation in Sitio Mapa, Barangay Culyat, Valderrama, Antique, on May 17, 2025, and seized a communist terrorist arms cache.

The soldiers recovered five high-powered fi****ms—including two M16 rifles, one M14 rifle, and two AK-47 rifles—a homemade shotgun pistol, anti-personnel mines, ammunition, magazines, and a National Democratic Front (NDF) flag.

The operation dealt a major blow to the Komiteng Rehiyong Panay (KR-Panay) of the CPP-NPA-NDF. A former rebel, known by the aliases "Boy Negro," "B**g," and "Dante," played a crucial role in the mission’s success. After surrendering on April 1, 2025, he provided key intelligence that led troops to the location of the arms cache.

Lieutenant Colonel Balgos thanked the former insurgent for his cooperation and commended his troops for their effectiveness. He emphasized that the recovered weapons will no longer pose a threat to communities and highlighted the operation as proof of the group's declining power and influence. “This victory strengthens our efforts to maintain peace and security in the area,” he said.

The 61st Infantry Battalion continues to expand its presence in local communities, protect civilians, and support peace initiatives. The unit also works to help former rebels reintegrate into society and lead peaceful lives, ensuring that violence no longer takes root in the region.
