Catburawan used to be a sitio of barangay Cabarian. However, since it has more inhabitants, it was soon separated from Cabarian in 1939-1940 before the Japanese era.

The place got its name from the word “Caburawan”, a Bicol term referring to the place where a fish called “buraw” was commonly catched. As time pass by, “Caburawan” became “Catburawan” and became the official name of the barangay.

The original settlers of the barangay were composed of more or less ten families. To name a few were the families of Esong Pita, Marciano Rubio, Lucio Alapad, Valentine de Luna, etc.

A fiesta is celebrated every 24th day of October in honor of the patron saint, St. Rafael de Archangel.
