Matagumpay na nakapagtapos ang 198 benepisyaryo ng Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) sa 10 hanggang 15 araw na paglilinis at pagsasaayos ng mga pasilidad ng irigasyon sa Sto. Domingo, Albay. Isinagawa ang proyekto sa pamamagitan ng pagtutulungan ng Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) at National Irrigation Administration–Albay Catanduanes Irrigation Management Office (NIA-ACIMO).

Ayon sa NIA-ACIMO, pangunahing isinagawa ng mga benepisyaryo ang clearing at desilting ng mga irrigation facilities upang mapanatili ang maayos na daloy ng tubig at makatulong sa operasyon ng mga pasilidad na nagsisilbi sa mga komunidad at magsasaka sa lugar. Pinalalakas ang mekanisadong pagsasaka ng Tuliw-Pawa Irrigators’ Association, Inc. sa Barangay Tuliw, Malinao, Albay sa pamamagitan ng mga makinarya at kagamitang pang-agrikultura na natanggap nito mula sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno.

Ayon sa National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Bicol, pormal na ipinagkaloob ng Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) sa asosasyon ang isang four-wheel drive tractor na may trailer sa ilalim ng Major Crop Rice-Based Block Farming Project. Ayon sa ahensya, kinilala ang Tuliw-Pawa IA bilang nangungunang kwalipikado mula sa 90 aplikanteng Irrigators’ Association sa Albay, dahilan upang maging malaking dagdag-suporta ang naturang interbensyon sa mga miyembro nitong magsasaka, partikular sa mga Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs). | 𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐢 𝐒𝐲𝐫𝐥 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐮𝐳𝐨𝐧

FEATURE FRIDAY | TULIW-PAWA IA ADVANCES MECHANIZED FARMING IN MALINAO

Through government support for agricultural mechanization, the Tuliw-Pawa Irrigators’ Association, Inc. of Brgy. Tuliw, Malinao, Albay continues to strengthen its farming operations through the acquisition of modern farm machinery and equipment.

Earlier this year, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) formally turned over one (1) unit Four-Wheel Drive Tractor with Trailer to the association under the Major Crop Rice-Based Block Farming Project. The Tuliw-Pawa IA was recognized as the top qualifier among 90 Irrigators’ Association applicants in Albay, making the intervention a significant boost to its farmer-members, particularly Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARBs).

The tractor adds to the association’s growing portfolio of mechanization support. In 2021, Tuliw-Pawa IA was among the recipients of RCEF mechanization components, receiving a four-wheel tractor with trailer and a rice combine harvester, with a walk-behind transplanter also lined up as part of the support.

The association’s commitment to sustainable farming is further demonstrated by its acquisition of a composting machine from the Bureau of Soils and Water Management in December 2024, providing an added resource for improved farm waste management and soil health.

From mechanized land preparation and harvesting to sustainable farm practices, Tuliw-Pawa IA’s journey demonstrates how continued support from government agencies can empower farmers, improve efficiency, and create greater opportunities for increased productivity and income.

With every machine added, Tuliw-Pawa IA moves one step closer to a more modern, efficient, and sustainable farming community.

TRIVIA TUESDAY | INANG MAHARANG BOILING LAKE

Province of Albay is home to Inang Maharang Boiling Lake, a natural geothermal wonder in the municipality of Manito, Albay, where water reaches boiling temperatures that locals have traditionally used it to cook eggs. The area features bubbling sulfur vents and boiling pools heated by deep underground volcanic activity.

The name “Maharang,” which means spicy, biting, or pungent, aptly describes the area’s intense heat and strong sulfur smell. Situated within the forested Pocdol Mountains, which straddle Albay and Sorsogon, Inang Maharang is part of the region’s rich geothermal environment, also harnessed by the Bacon-Manito (BacMan) geothermal developments.

Interestingly, the same area is also home to the Inang Maharang Communal Irrigation System (CIS), managed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA). The irrigation facility supports local agriculture and farmers, highlighting how the area’s natural geothermal landscape exists alongside productive agricultural communities.

While Inang Maharang showcases the remarkable power of nature, visitors are reminded to exercise extreme caution. Direct contact with its boiling water and sulfur-rich mud is strictly prohibited due to serious safety hazards.

PANOORIN | Upang masiguro ang kaligtasan, maayos na kondisyon, at tuloy-tuloy na operasyon ng mga pasilidad ng patubig, nagsagawa ang National Irrigation Administration (NIA) ng Dam Safety Reconciliation and Data Validation Activity sa mga National Irrigation System (NIS) dams sa Albay.

Layunin ng naturang aktibidad na magsagawa ng field inspection, beripikahin ang mahahalagang operational data, at masuri ang kasalukuyang kondisyon ng mga dam upang higit na mapalakas ang dam safety management at maintenance practices.

Pinangunahan ang aktibidad ng mga kinatawan mula sa NIA Central Office, kasama ang mga opisyal at Operations and Maintenance (O&M) personnel ng Albay-Catanduanes Irrigation Management Office (ACIMO) at Regional Office.

Sa pamamagitan ng patuloy na validation at assessment ng mga pasilidad, mas napapalakas ang kahandaan ng NIA sa pagsasagawa ng kinakailangang maintenance interventions upang mapanatili ang maayos at matatag na operasyon ng mga irrigation infrastructure.

Layunin ng NIA na patuloy na matiyak ang ligtas, episyente, at maaasahang suplay ng tubig para sa mga magsasaka, bilang suporta sa pagpapaunlad ng agrikultura.

𝐀𝐂𝐈𝐌𝐎 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 | 𝐍𝐈𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐍𝐈𝐒 𝐃𝐚𝐦 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐲

Strengthening the safety and reliability of irrigation infrastructure remains a top priority as the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) conducted a Dam Safety Reconciliation and Data Validation Activity across key National Irrigation System (NIS) dams in Albay on July 30, 2026. The initiative supports the continuous delivery of safe, efficient, and dependable irrigation services to farming communities by ensuring that dam facilities remain structurally sound and operationally resilient.

The validation activity was spearheaded by officials from the NIA Central Office, led by Engr. Sweetclaire L. Gamboa, Principal Engineer A and Section Head of the Dam Safety Unit, IEC-OD; Engr. Kim Neil M. Eucasion, Senior Engineer A of the Systems Management Division; and Engr. Harlyn Rose J. Bernabe, Researcher Analyst A from the Operations Section (IEC-OD).

Joining the inspection were ACIMO Manager Engr. Mark Cloyd G. So, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) personnel headed by Mr. Ian Feleciano III Berdin, and Regional Office O&M representatives led by Engr. Glen Emil B. Domacena.

The team conducted field inspections and validated critical operational data from NIS dams in Albay to assess existing conditions, verify records, and strengthen dam safety management practices. The activity also supports informed planning and timely implementation of maintenance interventions necessary to sustain the long-term performance of irrigation infrastructure.

Through initiatives such as this, NIA continues to uphold its commitment to safeguarding vital water resources, enhancing infrastructure resilience, and ensuring a stable and reliable irrigation water supply that supports agricultural productivity and food security.
