WATCH: “Ang DSWD ay isa sa mga pinaka-active na agencies sa Distrito ko.”
Cong. Ian Amatong expressed his strong support for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), recognizing the agency’s significant contribution to communities in the 3rd District of Zamboanga del Norte, during the Committee on Appropriations’ deliberations on the proposed FY 2027 budget of the DSWD.
“Ang DSWD ay isa sa mga pinaka-active na agencies sa Distrito ko. Dalawa sa pinakagusto namin na programs niyo ang AICS at SLP. Yung AICS, dahil sa flexibility nito, marami kaming mahihirap na estudyante na natutulungan. Yung sa SLP, kasi iba siya sa mga dole out programs, we give those who are willing to work really hard for themselves to succeed especially yung mga walang capital,” Cong. Ian shared.
He also pushed for increased funding for the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), citing its potential to provide livelihood opportunities to those willing to work toward becoming self-sufficient.
“Si Gov. Darel Uy of Zamboanga del Norte also recognizes the promise of SLP. We hope maibalik ang budget niyo for SLP kasi I have heard nabawasan eto. I’d like to support the move to increase yung budget specifically for SLP,” he added.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian welcomed Cong. Ian’s support, saying:
“We would like to thank the good congressman for raising two very important things: augmentation for SLP and augmentation for repairs and maintenance of MOE namin.”
