CIDG SEIZES PHP 700K ALLEGED SUBSTANDARD AUTOMOTIVE BATTERIES IN PANGASINAN
On July 15, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM, the CIDG Pangasinan Provincial Field Unit, together with representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) of Pangasinan in coordination with the Dagupan City Police Station conducted a law enforcement operation for alleged violation of Republic Act No. 7394 (Consumer Act of the Philippines) at a warehouse in Barangay Tebeng, Dagupan City, Pangasinan that resulted in the confiscation of 180 pieces of alleged substandard automotive batteries with an estimated value of PhP 700,000.0, and arrest of two (2) suspects.
A report that reached PMGEN Robert AA Morico II, the Director of the CIDG, stated that the arrested suspects “Isa,” female,owner of the warehouse, “Al” male, warehouse employee, both of legal age, were caught while possessing, in control, and selling imported automotive batteries from India - which are allegedly “uncertified” and “non-conforming” - thereby, exposing consumers to potential safety risks and violative of the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
The CIDG Director emphasized that it is the policy of the State to protect the interests of consumers, promote their general welfare, and establish standards of conduct for business and industry by ensuring that only safe, quality, and compliant products are offered in the market.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) strictly enforces safety standards to protect all consumers from all hazards.
Using uncertified and non-conforming automotive batteries presents severe risks that range from total vehicle failure to life-threatening physical hazards. Because these batteries bypass rigorous quality control channels and lack official verification marks—they substantially fail under standard operating conditions.
The CIDG’s intensified operations is in compliance with the focused program thrust of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, POLICE GENERAL JOSE MELENCIO C NARTATEZ JR.
The CIDG leadership commends PCOL Gene M Licud, the Regional Chief of CIDG Regional Field Unit 1, and the CIDG Pangasinan Provincial Field Unit led by PLTCOL Joseph DM Dela Cruz for the confiscation of alleged substandard products automotive batteries. The operation reinforces the government's commitment to ensuring that products offered in the market comply with established safety and quality standards, thereby, protecting consumers from potential hazards associated with uncertified products.
