FIRE EXTINGUISHERS ON COMPARTMENTALIZED AREAS

Under the 2019 IRR of R.A. No. 9514, as a rule, the “maximum” travel distance towards a fire extinguisher is 10 - 15 meters depending on the type of hazard and the rating of the extinguishing equipment involved. The law demands a more stringent requirement if the area involved is compartmentalized or separated by barriers. In such a case, the law mandates that atleast one (1) portable fire extinguisher should be provided. (See Section 10.2.6.9.G.2, Rule 10)

So, tama lang na ni-require ng isang fire extinguisher bawat room area.

The raison d’etre is simple. In case of fire, the fire extinguisher should be immediately accessible to anyone. Fire extinguishers are effective only during the “incipient stage” of fire growth. You do not want that person to still have to go out of the room and look for an extinguishing equipment. Time is of the essence in this scenario.

The enforcement of the Fire Code - a very consequential measure, will not be emasculated in such a pursuit. Fire extinguishers do save lives and properties.
