JMJ’s Homemade Delicacies began in 2016 with a small kitchen, humble capital, and a simple dream. For its owner, Miss Jay-An B. Opeña, the goal was clear, “I wanted to support my family while sharing the joy of Filipino delicacies.” What started as a modest livelihood was driven by her passion, perseverance, and belief that even the smallest effort can create something meaningful.

The early days were not easy. With only a few customers and modest sales, she often found herself in doubt. “There were times I questioned if I could continue,” she shared. Despite the challenges, Miss Opeña remained committed to quality and authenticity. Every p**o cheese and kakanin she prepared was crafted with care, reflecting Filipino tradition and her love for homemade goodness. As she puts it, “Every kakanin we make carries a story of hope, made with heart and shared with love.”

Through word-of-mouth, social media, and consistent effort, her small venture gradually gained recognition. The trust and support of the community played a vital role in its growth. “Each returning customer reminds me that success is not just about sales, but about the connections we build,” she said.

Today, JMJ’s Homemade Delicacies serves a growing community. The business now accepts pre-orders for various celebrations and even offers paluwagan options to make their products more accessible. What began as a simple dream has become a source of pride, stability, and inspiration. “This business is not just for my family it’s also for everyone who believes in supporting local,” Miss Opeña shared.

Looking back on her journey, she reflects on how far she has come. “With hard work, faith, and passion, humble beginnings can truly become something extraordinary.” Through every kakanin she creates, Miss Jay-An continues to share not just flavors, but stories of hope, resilience, and love stories that began in her kitchen and now reach the hearts of many.

Meet Ma’am Darlene Polistico, the proud owner of Little Apron’s Kamote Kendi, a homegrown specialty from the Municipality of Loreto, Dinagat Islands.
Inspired by childhood memories, Ma’am Darlene continues the tradition of making Kamote Kendi, a beloved snack that many grew up enjoying in school and during community events. What started as a simple homemade treat made by her mother and grandmother has now become her way of preserving a taste of the past, ensuring that people never forget the delicious flavor of Kamote Kendi.
By sourcing sweet potatoes locally and producing them in the community, she not only keeps the tradition alive but also supports local farmers. Today, Little Apron’s Kamote Kendi can be found in stores across Loreto, Dinagat Islands, in pasalubong shops in San Jose, Dinagat Islands, and even at the OTOP Kiosk in Butuan and Surigao City.
With gratitude to partner agencies and ongoing community support, Ma’am Darlene remains dedicated to sharing this traditional treat and ensuring the sweet taste of Kamote Kendi endures for generations.

‎July 25, 2025 - ‎The Department of Trade and Industry-Province Dinagat Islands (DTI -PDI), through the Negosyo Center Loreto and in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Provincial Development Office, successfully conducted a Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) Orientation for micro business owners in the Municipality of Loreto during the Technical and Advisory Visit (TAV) of DOLE. The activity was attended by the Municipal Administrator of LGU-Loreto, Engr. Joy B. Conales and the PESO Manager, Ms. Lilibeth C. Paragamac, who assisted with the facilitation of the activity.

‎A total of 26 micro business owners participated in the orientation, which aimed to equip them with essential knowledge on government-mandated business legalities, employment regulations, basic workplace safety, and the benefits and processes involved in registering under the BMBE law. Emphasis was placed on the importance of compliance with documentary requirements, to which the participants expressed their commitment to fulfill at the soonest possible time.

This initiative is part of DTI-PDI’s continuing efforts to empower local entrepreneurs and promote inclusive growth through information dissemination and inter-agency collaboration.
