MARAMING SALAMAT SA LAHAT NG TUMINDIG, KAHIT GAANO PA KAHIRAP.

Unti-unti, nasisilayan na natin ang sinag ng hustisya, pero ito pa lamang ang simula, mahaba pa ang ating laban.

Sa bawat pamilyang nawalan, sa bawat inang naghahanap ng hustisya, sa bawat anak na lumaki nang may pangungulila, malapit na nating makamit ang katarungang matagal nating ipinaglalaban.

Hindi natin mababawi ang mga buhay na nawala, pero kaya nating tiyakin na ang kanilang alaala ay hindi malilimutan, at ang kanilang pagkamatay ay hindi mawawalan ng saysay.

ML Partylist Statement on the Arrest of Former President Rodrigo Duterte by the ICC

The arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC) is a long-overdue step toward justice. For years, victims and their families have waited for accountability, and today, the world has affirmed that no one is above the law.

Our first nominee, Leila de Lima, was among the first to challenge Duterte’s drug war—when few dared to do so. She stood up against the killings, exposed the truth, and paid the price with almost seven years of unjust imprisonment. While she faced her case with dignity and courage, Duterte must now answer for the crimes committed under his watch.

This moment is not about retribution—it is about justice. The fight does not end here. Those who enabled and profited from this bloody campaign must also be held accountable.

To the victims and their families, we see you, we stand with you, and we will continue to fight alongside you. Justice may take time, but it always finds its way.

Leila de Lima, one of fiercest critics of the former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody “war on drugs” who was jailed for more than six years on baseless charges, will try to return to politics in 2025.

De Lima was one of the few politicians who criticised Duterte during his time in office, and enraged the former leader when she began investigating killings carried out during his anti-drugs crackdowns. She knew to expect retaliation, she said. “I thought it would just be regular vilification, the slut-shaming, the verbal attacks,” she said. She did not anticipate that she would spend more than six and a half years in prison.
