𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: Day 3 of the 5-day Training-Workshop on Data Analytics for the Future (DAF) X at Kew Hotel, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The morning session started with "Machine Learning with Orange Data Mining Part 1" led by UPLB Assistant Professor Mr. Ben Paul B. Dela Cruz, who introduced fundamental concepts and practical applications of machine learning workflows.

In the afternoon, participants delved deeper into hands-on machine learning applications during "Machine Learning with Orange Data Mining Part 2", facilitated by UPLB Assistant Professor Mr. Emerson R. Rico.

"The DOST-PCAARRD-funded project, "Biochemical Profiling and Bioactivity Assessment of Marine Phytoplankton in Selected Coastal Waters in Luzon as Potential Live Feed for Aquaculture, a uGREAT Project (BIOPHYTOMAR)," successfully conducted its Capacity Building Workshop last September 28, 2026, equipping our scholars with critical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical foundations for scientific research."

𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: Day 2 of the 5-Day Training-Workshop on Data Analytics for the Future (DAF) X at Kew Hotel, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The morning session focused on "Data Visualization and Infographics," led by UPLB Professor Dr. Pamela A. Custodio, who shared insights and principles for effectively presenting complex data through compelling visual narratives.

In the afternoon, participants engaged in hands-on infographic exercises facilitated by Dr. Custodio and UP Diliman University Extension Specialist Dr. John Vincent J. Bucal.

𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: The Institution Development Division (IDD) and Marine Resources Research Division (MRRD) of DOST-PCAARRD are conducting the Midterm Review of the project, “Fostering Integrated Sustainable Habitats for Ecosystem Security in Davao Gulf, Mindanao, Southern Philippines (FISHES Mindanao),” a project under the Undergraduate Research and Education Assistantship for Technology (uGREAT) Program. The activity is being held at the University of the Philippines Mindanao, Mintal, Davao City, and is led by A/Prof. Leo Manuel B. Estaña, Project Leader, on September 29, 2026.

Currently, the FISHES Mindanao Project supports 26 undergraduate students as they undertake their respective thesis studies, providing financial and technical assistance through project funds. The participating students come from the BS Applied Mathematics, BS Computer Science, BS Biology, and BS Data Science programs of UP Mindanao.

During the midterm review, the students supported by the project are presenting the progress of their respective thesis research studies, highlighting their accomplishments, initial findings, and the challenges encountered in the course of their research.

The uGREAT Program of DOST-PCAARRD is a capacity-building initiative that supports undergraduate students in conducting thesis-based research aligned with national priorities in Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources (AANR). Through the program, students receive financial and technical support, including a monthly allowance during their thesis semester.

𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐄𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐎𝐖: Day 1 of the 5-day Training-Workshop on Data Analytics for the Future (DAF) X at Kew Hotel, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The program opened with remarks from PCAARRD Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora and a message from CVAARRDEC Chairperson Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, followed by the introduction of resource persons, guests, and participants, and an overview of house rules.

The first session, "Connecting two DOST-PCAARRD Associations: GREAT and DPGAA" and "Giving Meaning to Data Analytics… isang kwento na may kwenta," was led by DPGAA President Ms. Marita A. Carlos and Continuing Education Committee Chair Dr. Edwin C. Villar. This was followed by "Introduction to Data Analytics" and an afternoon session on Basic Data Preparation with R Studio, both facilitated by UPLB Assistant Professor Dr. Jonathan B. Mamplata.

The activities today also include hands-on session on "Dashboarding with Google Looker Studio" by UPLB Assistant Professor I Ms. Gimelle B. Gamilla-Amorosa, introducing practical ways to present data through interactive dashboards.

DOrSU hosts Dr. Jimlea Nadezhda A. Mendoza of the DOST-PCAARRD Balik Scientist Program, who shared qualitative research approaches for exploring local fishers’ knowledge and understanding lake ecosystem fisheries.

The iGREAT Program highlights the scholars of the 1st Cohort of the PhilDOST–Michigan State University Collaboration, a graduate scholarship initiative of DOST-PCAARRD in partnership with DOST-SEI, who paid a courtesy visit to Consul General Melanie Rita B. Diano at the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago on 23 September 2026.

During the visit, the scholars shared their respective research fields, academic pursuits, and re-entry plans, highlighting their commitment to advancing agricultural, fisheries, and scientific development in the Philippines.
