State University and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently held an orientation to launch the Coffee Quality Stream Mapping activity in Kalinga province. The initiative, led by Mr. Jeffrey Pasikan of DTI, brought together the Kalinga Provincial Coffee Council (KPCC) Technical Working Group. This group includes representatives from KSU, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG), the Office of the City Agriculturist and Services (OCAS) Municipal Agricultural Services Office (MASOs) and the DTI.
The Office of the Provincial Governor, under the leadership of Governor James S. Edduba, generously funded this important orientation. This activity is a key part of a joint research project between KSU and DTI, aptly named "Supply Chain Analysis of the Coffee Industry." Guiding this research are Dr. Joy Grace P. Doctor, KSU president, Dr. Karen Razelle M. Duyan from KSU's College of Entrepreneurship, Tourism, and Hospitality Management, and Christopher Agustin from the College of Agriculture.
This study is expected to deliver a thorough assessment of Kalinga's current coffee production landscape, a detailed supply chain map, and concrete recommendations for training programs. It will also provide valuable insights for future policy development. Ultimately, the research aims to equip stakeholders with the crucial information needed to optimize the coffee value chain in Kalinga Province, boosting its contribution to both the regional and national economies.
In his closing remarks, DTI Provincial Director Renie M. Ramos expressed his gratitude to all participants and conveyed his high expectations for the study's output, emphasizing its potential to significantly impact the local coffee industry.
