The Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Quezon successfully conducted a โ€œTraining-Writeshop on GMP Documents and Records for Ouanโ€™s Worth Farm and Family Resort Corporationโ€ on May 20, 2026, at the companyโ€™s food processing facility in Brgy. Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City.

The activity aimed to strengthen the companyโ€™s capability to implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), particularly in the proper development, organization, and maintenance of GMP-related documents and records essential to food safety compliance and operational efficiency.

The training-writeshop served as a follow-up initiative after the previously conducted Seminar-Training on Food Safety Hazards and Seminar-Training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Through the activity, participants were guided on the practical application of GMP principles through documentation and record-keeping.

Ms. Precious R. Monedera, Supervising Science Research Specialist, and Ms. Sydney Mae G. Tadiosa, Science Research Specialist II, members of the DOST-Quezon Food Safety Team, served as resource speakers and facilitators during the activity. Participants included the management and production staff of Ouanโ€™s Worth Farm and Family Resort Corporation.

The whole-day training-writeshop covered various GMP components, including organization, premises and equipment, sanitation and hygiene, production and process control, quality control, documentation, warehousing and distribution, product recall, sample retention, and subcontracting to manufacturers. Participants were also provided with GMP documentation templates and reference materials to assist them in drafting and standardizing their GMP Manual and monitoring forms.

Through this initiative, DOST-Quezon continues to support local MSMEs by promoting food safety compliance, strengthening documentation systems, and enhancing operational readiness among food processing enterprises.

DOST-Quezon conducts Seminar-Training on Good Manufacturing Practices for Ouanโ€™s Worth Farm and Family Resort Corporation

As part of its continuing commitment to strengthening food safety and quality assurance practices, Ouanโ€™s Worth Farm and Family Resort Corporation conducted a Seminar-Training on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for its food processing and operational activities on May 14, 2026, at Ouanโ€™s The Farm Resort located in Brgy. Kanlurang Mayao, Lucena City.

The activity served as a follow-up initiative to the previously conducted food safety training for the companyโ€™s personnel. A total of thirteen (13) participants attended the seminar-training, composed primarily of staff and operational personnel of Ouanโ€™s Worth Farm and Family Resort Corporation.
Technical sessions were facilitated by resource persons from the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Quezon, who discussed the importance of implementing Good Manufacturing Practices in food establishments. The discussions emphasized the critical role of GMP in ensuring food quality and safety, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

Ms. Raiza Lyn N. Antenor, Project Technical Assistant II of DOST-Quezon, discussed the fundamentals of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), highlighting that GMP serves as the foundation of an establishmentโ€™s food safety management system. Her discussion focused on proper personnel hygiene, sanitation procedures, contamination prevention, proper handling and storage practices, and the importance of maintaining a clean and organized processing environment.

An activity workshop on cross-contamination was also conducted to further strengthen the participantsโ€™ understanding of food safety hazards and preventive measures within food processing operations. Through the workshop, participants were able to identify possible sources of contamination and apply appropriate corrective and preventive actions in actual workplace scenarios.

The seminar-training aimed to enhance the participantsโ€™ knowledge, awareness, and capabilities in implementing food safety practices aligned with GMP standards. The activity likewise reinforced the importance of continuous improvement and adherence to food safety principles in maintaining product quality and consumer protection.

Through initiatives such as this, DOST-Quezon continues to support local enterprises in strengthening their operational practices and promoting a culture of food safety and quality within the food processing industry.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was formally signed on May 7, 2026, among New Pathways to Enterprise Incorporated, Pasciolco Agri Ventures, and the Department of Science and Technology โ€“ Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) during a signing ceremony held at the DOST-FNRI Building in Bicutan, Taguig City. The initiative aims to conduct sensory evaluations and shelf-life studies of iron-fortified plain and spiced coconut sap vinegar as part of efforts to develop innovative, value-added coconut-based products.

Under the agreement, New Pathways to Enterprise Incorporated will provide funding support for the initiative, while DOST-FNRI will lead the conduct and monitoring of the study and provide technical guidance for the production of the iron-fortified coconut sap vinegar. Pasciolco Agri Ventures, a Quezon-based enterprise recognized for its coconut products, was endorsed by DOST-Quezon as a partner for the initiative in recognition of its strong presence in the local coconut industry, and will undertake pilot production and sample preparation for use in the study.

New Pathways to Enterprise Incorporated is an organization that supports nutrition research and innovative livelihood initiatives, particularly for small and medium entrepreneurs, including women-led enterprises. The organization promotes programs geared toward food security, health and nutrition, creativity, and community empowerment.

During the ceremony, representatives from the participating institutions highlighted the importance of making science and technology accessible and beneficial to ordinary Filipinos, particularly grassroots communities, emphasizing that โ€œscience is most powerful when it becomes accessible to the people.โ€ The initiative also underscored the ongoing challenge of iron deficiency and the need to translate scientific solutions from the laboratory to the household table through affordable, nutrition-focused food innovations.

Representing DOST-CALABARZON as witness during the signing ceremony was DOST-Quezon Provincial S&T Director Maria Esperanza E. Jawili. The participation of DOST-Quezon highlights its continuing commitment to fostering science, technology, and innovation-driven collaborations that support regional development and local enterprises.
