“𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐀” – 𝐀 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞

Performed at the Regional Festival of Talents – Bayle sa Kalye in Tadian, Mountain Province, our dance interpretation of Joey Ayala’s Bathala is a tribute to the Creator’s gifts—wisdom (talino), spirit (diwa), and abundance (sagana)—and a reflection on how humanity has misused them.

Through rhythmic movements and the sounds of ethnic instruments, we honored the sacred connection between Bathala (Kabunyan) and nature. The dance depicted the beauty of creation—land, water, air, and life itself—only to reveal how greed and exploitation have led to destruction. Mining tunnels carve deep scars, waters turn murky with pollution, and forests fall to the hands of industry, all in the name of “progress.”

Yet, amidst the chaos, we return to the core values of the Kalinga people: Paniyaw, Ngilin, and Bain. These remind us that while the world may falter, our culture teaches us to respect and protect what remains.

In the end, we, the Ykalingas, choose unity over greed, respect over destruction, and reverence over exploitation—because true prosperity lies in harmony, not in ruin.
