MAASIN LHIO HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE ON PHILHEALTH LATEST POLICIES AND BENEFIT PACKAGES

The Maasin Local Health Insurance Office (LHIO) held a press conference on April 22, 2025, at the SLEM Cooperative, Brgy. Asuncion, Maasin City.

The event was attended by members of the Associated Media of Southern Leyte, information officers, the Philippine Information Agency, officers from the Communicators Network of Southern Leyte, and a representative from DILG Southern Leyte.

The objective of the press conference was to share the latest updates on PhilHealth policies, benefit packages, and services, provide a platform for ongoing plans and programs, and address issues and concerns related to PhilHealth.

Acisclo Militante, Jr., Division Chief representing Mr. Ronald S. Jabay, Vice President of PhilHealth Regional Office VIII, welcomed the participants and laid out the objectives of the activity.

Some highlights from the discussion included:
• Automatic Coverage of Solo Parents and their Children
• Lifting of the Single Period of Confinement (SPC) Policy
• Updated Z Benefits for Catastrophic Illnesses
• Outpatient Emergency Care Benefits
• Konsulta Package, which now includes preventive oral health services, prescription eyeglasses, and more.

A Day with the SAMARITANS: Honoring Humanitarian Efforts

On December 13, 2024, the Southern Leyte Provincial Gym came alive with camaraderie and purpose during “A Day with the SAMARITANS,” a gathering of Philippine Red Cross (PRC) humanitarian personnel and stakeholders. The event highlighted the collective efforts of individuals and organizations dedicated to fostering resilience and humanitarian service in Southern Leyte.

A significant moment of the day was the recognition of DILG Southern Leyte as a steadfast partner of the Philippine Red Cross Southern Leyte Chapter. The award acknowledged the agency’s unwavering support for humanitarian initiatives in the province. Representing DILG Provincial Director Danilo A. Laguitan was Program Manager Maria Imelda A. Orilla, who received the award on behalf of the organization.

The gathering celebrated partnerships and inspired continued collaboration between stakeholders in addressing the challenges faced by local communities. The event underscored the importance of collective action in promoting welfare and building a culture of compassion and preparedness.

Through this recognition, DILG Southern Leyte reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the PRC’s humanitarian mission, ensuring that help and hope reach those who need it the most.

Southern Leyte State University Honored with the 2024 CapDev Accelerator Award in Local Governance

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 Capacity Development Accelerator Award in Local Governance by the DILG Local Government Academy. The award was presented on December 11, 2024, at The Manila Hotel.

This honor highlights SLSU’s outstanding contributions in advancing local governance excellence through capacity development initiatives. It reflects the university’s continuous efforts in partnering with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to empower local government units (LGUs) and drive sustainable development.

SLSU’s legacy of innovation in governance has been acknowledged in previous years, with the university receiving the Next Gen CapDev Accelerator Award in both 2022 and 2023. This earlier award recognized SLSU’s potential in fostering innovative and transformative solutions for LGUs.

DILG Southern Leyte and the Southern Leyte Sub-Regional Local Governance Resource Center take immense pride in this remarkable achievement, which underscores the university’s unwavering commitment to enhancing governance excellence across the region.

PEACE, SECURITY: The municipality of Tomas Oppus on Monday, November 11, has declared to have attained a stable internal peace and security condition (SIPSC) through a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by all the stakeholders involved in sustaining peace in the municipality.
“This MOU signifies the handover of Internal Security Operations (ISO) efforts to the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tomas Oppus, empowering the LGU to take the lead in sustaining peace and order through the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) and the Municipal Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC),” the provincial DILG office reported in their social media page.
