𝗡𝗚𝗖𝗣 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗦 '𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧' 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗬𝗔𝗦 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗢 𝗚𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗗 𝗖𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗢𝗙 𝗩𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗔𝗟 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦

In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines placed both the Visayas and Mindanao grids under 'RED ALERT' amid the shutdown of several coal plants that power both grids.

Consequently, areas across the Visayan Region are expected to experience rotational brownouts from 1PM to 10 PM, while those in Mindanao may experience outages from 12NN to 9PM.

All are advised to stay updated on the latest developments and take precautions.

𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧: 𝗛𝗔𝗭𝗘 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗩𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗬𝗔𝗡 𝗥𝗘𝗚𝗜𝗢𝗡, 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗬 𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗘𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘𝗦

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) has advised several areas in the Visayan Region to take precautions against the observed haze possibly linked to the forest fires in Kalimatan, Indonesia.

The prevailing winds carried the smoke from the fires to the Visayan Region and other parts of the country. Yesterday, September 2, DENR-EMB observed poor and unhealthy air quality across the country, prompting the agency to issue precautions.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗜𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 𝗢𝗙 𝗔𝗕𝗔𝗖𝗔 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟 𝗕𝗔𝗚 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗥𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗬 𝗣𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗙𝗜𝗗𝗔, 𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗦𝗢

Participants in the 4-day Abaca School Bag Making Training are now halfway through, having completed Day 2 at the Old DPWH Building, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, September 2, 2026.

The training is made possible through the collaboration of the Provincial Agricultural Services Office (PAgSO) and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA). Through the partnership, the provincial government can train workers to produce high-quality and marketable abaca bags.

As an emerging industry in the province, Abaca is widely produced by Southern Leyte farmers. This is a perfect opportunity for synergy between producers of raw abaca materials and abaca product makers.

The Provincial Government of Southern Leyte hosted a Holy Mass at the Provincial Government Building Lobby, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, September 2, 2026.

The Mass was held at noon and was attended by several officials and staff from different provincial-level departments. The attendees prayed for a more productive and progressive month, echoing calls of camaraderie, love, and compassion as the nation welcomes the holiday season.

Just before August ended, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, with the Provincial Treasurer's Office, conducted another wave of payouts for PWD beneficiaries in Maasin and Macrohon.

In total, 290 PWDs were given 3,000 pesos worth of assistance (114 in Macrohon; 176 in Maasin).

The daily streak of payouts is part of the PSWDO's implementation of assistance programs in support of vulnerable sectors of the province.

The Provincial Agricultural Services Office (PAgSO) joins forces with the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) to train individuals in abaca school bag making at the Old DPWH Building, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, September 1, 2026.

The Training for Trainers (TOT) will span four days, starting today until Friday, September 4. PhilFIDA has strategically fragmented different modules of the whole process over the four-day TOT. This will ensure trainers receive in-depth and valuable input during the activity.

PhilFIDA opened with an introduction to the industry and showed trainers the basic operations of the abaca bag-making process.

In a speech, OIC-Provincial Agriculturist Cristita O. Clava expressed her strong support for the activity, highlighting that Abaca is a thriving industry across the province.

Meanwhile, PhilFIDA says it is willing to strengthen cooperation among the provincial government, agencies, farmers, and stakeholders in bolstering the province's abaca industry.

The Provincial Government begins the week with a flag ceremony at the Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, September 1, 2026.

Today marks another chapter for the entire nation as the ber-months arrive, a Filipino tradition where the spirit of Christmas starts to be felt across the country. Coincidentally, the province's Tuesday uniform is red and green, colors that are commonly used to symbolize the season.

Provincial offices are open today until Friday, from 8 o'clock in the morning to 5 o'clock in the afternoon.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) resumes its Capability-building Activity at the PSWDO Function Hall, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, August 28, 2026.

Today marks the second and last day of the activity, where the Women's Federation of the province is given the chance to collaborate, reassess, and create a roadmap for the province's direction in relation to women's empowerment and rights.

The activity is composed of talks, fun and games, and open discourses about women's rights and the modern issues faced by Southern Leyteñas.

PSWD Officer Jonah Gaviola thanked all the women who participated and reassured them that the provincial government has always supported and will always support the cause of women.

The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Management Office called up concerned stakeholders for an orientation on the salient provisions of the updated Southern Leyte Mining Ordinance at the Old DPWH Function Hall, Capitol Site, Asuncion, Maasin City, today, August 28, 2026.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 289 s. 2026 was passed by the provincial legislature recently after successful scrutiny by the 14-membered Body. It can be gleaned that a couple of months ago, the same stakeholders were called to a public hearing on the same ordinance before it underwent its final reading before the Sanggunian.

After several revisions and readings, the mining ordinance was officially passed, and if its provisions become effective, it should impose newer standards and guidelines for both private and public sectors.

Today, with the leadership of the PENRMO and the provincial government, duly represented by Provincial Administrator Engr. Nelson Tan, the Ordinance was inspected and relayed to the concerned stakeholders.
