DILG SOUTHERN LEYTE EMPOWERS YOUTH THROUGH DRUG PREVENTION AND PEACEBUILDING FORUM
As part of the Department of the Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) continuing initiatives to promote public safety, drug prevention, and peacebuilding among the youth, the DILG Southern Leyte Provincial Office conducted the “Empowering the Youth: A Forum on Drug Prevention and Peacebuilding” at the Mini Theater of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) in Sogod, Southern Leyte on August 26, 2026.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Southern Leyte Provincial Police Office (SLPPO), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and the 93rd Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, bringing together more than 100 first-year SLSU students for an engaging discussion on drug prevention, road safety, national security, and the role of young people in promoting peace and building safer communities.
The participants and resource speakers were welcomed by Dr. Jude A. Duarte, President of SLSU, who underscored the importance of empowering students with knowledge and awareness of issues that directly affect their safety and future.
LGOO II Randilou P. Uy provided an overview of the activity, highlighting the key topics and discussions lined up for the forum.
In his message, DILG Southern Leyte Provincial Director Danilo A. Laguitan emphasized the vital role of the youth in building a peaceful and drug-free society:
“Kayo ang lakas ng paaralan. Kayo ang boses ng kapayapaan. The youth is the strongest wall against drugs, violence, and lies. So let’s stand together. Let’s choose education. Let’s choose peace. Let’s choose our future.”
The forum featured resource speakers who tackled key issues affecting the youth.
LTC Celeste Frank L. Sayson, INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer of the 93rd Infantry Battalion, discussed deceptive recruitment tactics of Communist Terrorist Groups and the importance of national security awareness.
Aldous Dexter M. Roa, AC, of the Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU), and PLT Fiamitta Moldes Mahinay, Assistant Team Leader of the Leyte Sur Provincial Highway Patrol Team (LSPHPT), discussed road safety procedures and responsible road practices.
Meanwhile, IO I Marygen F. Lagera, Provincial PECIS Officer/PBO of PDEA Regional Office VIII, discussed anti-illegal drug awareness and prevention, emphasizing the importance of informed and responsible choices.
