Plan International Pilipinas successfully conducted the OKY Youth Champions Training at Elai Resort, Hotel, and Recreation Center in Kidapawan City, bringing together youth leaders from the Municipality of Ampatuan and a youth organization from Cotabato City.
The Municipality of Ampatuan participated in the three-day training, represented by the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) headed by John Mark D. Zamora, LPT. Also joining the activity were the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, represented by Municipal Treasurer Ms. Noraida Mandi, CPA, the Municipal GAD Focal Person, personnel from the Rural Health Unit (RHU) of Ampatuan, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation officials headed by Hon. Sittie Ayesha Sangki, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Officials of eleven (11) barangays, and members of the Ampatuan Junior Responders.
The training introduced participants to the OKY App, a free mobile application that helps girls monitor their monthly menstrual cycle while providing reliable information on menstrual health, reproductive health, personal hygiene, and overall well-being. The app also offers practical tips that encourage young people to make informed and healthy decisions in their everyday lives.
Participants were trained to become OKY Youth Champions, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to promote the application in their respective communities. As youth advocates, they are expected to encourage more girls and young people to download and use the app, making trusted health information more accessible, especially to adolescents.
For the Local Government Unit of Ampatuan, the activity also supports the ALISTO KABATAAN Program, the flagship program of the Local Youth Development Office. The program focuses on developing informed, healthy, responsible, and empowered young people by providing opportunities for leadership, community involvement, health promotion, and youth development. Through partnerships with organizations such as Plan International Pilipinas, the program continues to bring services and learning opportunities that respond to the needs of the youth.
One of the participants, Asmaira Sangki, 22, an SK Kagawad of Barangay kakal, shared how the training inspired her.
โMalaking tulong ang application na ito, hindi lang para sa pag-track ng ating menstruation, kundi para rin sa kabuuang kalusugan natin. Ang challenge dito ay ang kakulangan ng access para sa mga kabataan.โ
Her statement reflects both the importance of the OKY App and the need to make digital health tools more accessible to young people, especially in communities where access to information remains a challenge.
The OKY Youth Champions Training is part of Plan International Pilipinas' continuing commitment to empowering young people through digital health education and youth leadership. Together with the Local Government Unit of Ampatuan and its partner offices, the initiative strengthens the goals of the ALISTO KABATAAN Program by encouraging youth participation, promoting healthier lifestyles, and empowering young leaders to become advocates for positive change in their communities.
